Mr. James Pierce, who holds contract for garbage removal, was present and stated
that the Company who now holds his surety bond is insisting upon certain security
being given at considerable expense to Mr. Pierce. He stated that he has a new
Company which does not require this but that a bond in the new Company could not be
issued within approximately ten days and that he would be willing to place a cash bond
with the City for the intervening time until the new bond could be filed. The Board
agreed to accept this and 11r. Pierce was instructed to have his cash bond in the hands
of the Controller by not later than Thursday morning, January 2nd.
Mr. Peter J. Marchelewicz, who operates a. filling station at 335 South St. Joseph
Street, appeared before the Board and requested that that part of east Division Street
south of the old Grand Trunk Depot and north of the Grand Trunk tracks be held open.
After fully discussing this matter with him, the Board felt this could not be carried
out because East Division Street at this point only extends to the alley east of
Michigan Street. The Board, however, informed him that they would consider the matter
further and definite action would be postponed for one week.
