Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on December 23, 1935 at,
9:30 A. MI. All members were present.
Z"inutes of previous meeting were read and approved.
Claims in the amount of $633.37 were approved and ordered paid, also payrolls of
the Street and Sewer Departments amounting to 5,603.83.

A communication was referred to the Board from the State Highway Commission of
Indiana, addressed to the Mayor, in reference to letting contracts on the Bottle Neck
project. The following letter was directed to be sent to the Highway Commission which
was done.

Dear Sir:
Your letter of December 21st to the Mayor of the City of South Bend was
received by him and referred to the Board of Public Works.
We are obliged to advise you that due to legal complications which have
arisen in respect to the condemnation of the necessary right-of-way it is impossible
for us to have the matter entirely cleared so that bids could be let by January 28th.
Under the circumstances, we will not be ready and you will be advised of
further developments as we progress. •

A letter from the St. Joseph Loan & Trust Company was received, requesting re -
spread of assessments on Trots 1 and 2 in Vail's Addition, Block No. 5, recorded in
Deed Book No. 278, Page 384, as of November 19, 1935. The Secretary was directed to
address the following letter to the Trust Company, which was done.

Gentlemen:
Your letter of December 18th with reference to re -spread of Lots 1 and 2 in
Vail's Addition, Block No. 5, received and please be advised that this does not come
within the provision of the law for re -spread of assessments .and we are, therefore,
unable to comply with your request.

Continuation certificates for excavation bonds were filed with the Board and
approved in favor of the following: Edward J. White, South Bend; United Heating &

Bend; Samuel Slotsky, South Bend; Thomas J. McGrath, South Bend; Phillip Cohn, South

South Bend; Louis Stoll, South Bend; Jacob Hawblitzel, South Bend; Joseph B. Fleck,
South Bend;and Jay L. Taylor, South Bend.
The meeting adjourned at 10:00 A. M.
