Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, October 14, 1935 at -�
11:00 A. M. All members were present.
Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved.

Mr. L. J. Orr, Attorney representing Julius Seeberger, submitted blue prints for
a filling station to be erected at the northeast corner of Western Avenue and Chapin
Street for the Sinclair Oil Company and requested the privilege of having two openings,
thirty feet wide each, on Western Avenue and one opening, thirty feet wide, on Chapin
Street. After carefully going over the plans, the Board decided that they could permit
but- one opening on Western Avenue and so informed Mr. Orr.

Mr. J. C. Weer, Street Commissioner, reported that men are now being employed,
living outside of the City of South Bend, working on W.P.A. projects. After discussing;
the matter and considering the views of the Mayor, it was regularly moved, seconded
and carried that Mir. Weer notify Mr. Legeman that the Board does not sanction this
i procedure and expects immediate discontinuance of the employment of men living outside
of the City on W.P.A. projects where the City furnishes the material.
Excavation Bond in the amount of $1,000.00 in favor of Ernest L. Longway of
Mishawaka was approved by the Board.
Frederick J. Anderson, City Civil Engineer, filed primary Assessment Roll, showing
awards and damages and assessment of benefits in the matter of vacation of the alley
south of Almond. Court from alley east of St. Peter Street to alley west of Notre Dame
Avenu:6,,under Vacation Resolution #2484.
In the above named Assessment Roll, the Board hereby orders that on the 4th day of
November 1935 this Board will meet in the City Hall at 11:00 A. M. to hear and receive
remonstrances of all persons interested in or affected by said Vacation. The Board
further orders that notices of said hearing be advertised in the South Bend News -Times
and Tribune on the 17th and 24th of October and that notices of said hearing on
November 4th together with the amounts of damages awarded and benefits assessed be
delivered to Property owners according to law. A copy of the Assessment Roll follows:

October 21, 1935. Mr. Hunter was absent.

A Petition,signed by twenty-three residents in the neighborhood of Pleasant Street
to the St. Joseph River between 28th and 29th Streets, requesting that the public be
forbidden to dump rubbish on the gravel pits in that vicinity,,was referred to Mr. Weer,
Street Commissioner.
A communication from the Colpaert Realty Company was received, advising that they
would within the next thirty days remove the posts and shrubbery at intersection on
Mishawaka Avenue from 30th to 35th Streets.
Mr. John Buczkowski appeared before the Board and complained about the lights to
the approaches of the subway at Western Avenue and Walnut Street and that these lights
should be increased in power. He was advised that our present appropriation would not
justify this additional expense and that an investigation, would be made to see if any
improvement could be arrived at.
Communication from Don 0. Wilson of the Studebaker Corporation, referred to the
Board by the Common Council, with reference to making Lincoln Way Test a Boulevard
instead of Colfax Avenue, was ordered placed on file.
The meeting adjourned at 11:45 A. M.

ADDENDA: This being the date set for hearing on Vacation Resolution #2485, same being
vacation of alley west of Olive Street from Longley Avenue to alley north of Longley
Avenue, by regular motion action on this Resolution was postponed until regular meeting
of October 28, 1935.
This being the date set for hearing of. Vacation Resolution #2482, same being
• vacation of Leeper Avenue from the north line of Angella Avenue to the north city limits
by regular motion hearing on this Resolution was postponed until regular meeting of
April 20, 1936.
