Regular meeting of the Board
of Public Works was held on Monday, October 7,
1935
at 11:15 A. M. All members were
present.
Minutes of meeting of September 30th were
read and approved.
Claims in the amount of $3,478.44 were allowed and ordered paid, also payroll
amounting to 1,832.86.

This being the date set for hearing of Vacation Resolution #2484, same being
vacation of alley south of Almond Court from the east line of alley east of St. Peter
Street to the west line of alley west of Notre Dame Avenue. There being no remon-
strances and no remonstrances being filed, this Resolution was approved by the Board
and ordered referred to the Engineering Department for the purpose of compiling
assessment roll showing benefits and damages.
This being the date' set for hearing of Resolution #2483, same being vacation of
alley north of Randolph Street from Marine Street to the first alley west of Marine
Street, there being present Mr. Harry S. Fisher requesting a continuance, due to his
inability at present time to take care of the benefits which would be derived. The
Board, after fully considering the matter, postponed action on the Resolution until
February 3, 1936.
On request of the Fire Chief, the Board authorized the purchase of twenty four
fire brick and a sack of fire clay for repairs to Fire Department boiler at Central
Station.

City Civil Engineer
City Civil Engineer, Frederick J. Anderson reported that he had taken up with the
• City of Mishawaka the matter of improving Ironwood Drive from Lincoln Way East to
Ewing Avenue and that further consultation is necessary before definite action can be.
taken. The City of Mishawaka has asked for a W.P.A. project to cover this paving.
Mr. J. C. deer, Street Commissioner, submitted his monthly report for September,
showing work done by Street, Alley and Sewer Departments. Report has been placed on
file in the Board of Works office.
Mr. J. C. Weer submitted to the Board complete report of the work done and the
cost to the City of operations under the Works Program Administration for the month of
August, which report is on file in the Board of Public Works.
The Northern Indiana Railway, Inc., through its Receiver Raymond R. Smith,
the Board Deed for the following described
delivered to a Quit -Claim property:
"A strip of land located in the Northwest quarter () of the Northwest quarter
(�) of Section One (1) in Township Thirty-seven (37) north of Range Two (2) East, more
particularly described as follows: All right of Way adjacent to and east of the
Michigan Central Railroad Company's Right of Way lying south of Angella Avenue and
Northerly and Westerly of the West line of the Right of Way of State Road No. Thirty-
one (31) as acquired by condemnation proceedings by Resolution No. 2481 of the Depart-
ment of Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana; the above described tract
being in addition to land condemned from Northern Indiana Railway, Inc. in Resolution
No. 2461. Said tract being a part of land which was conveyed to the grantors
•
predecessor in title by Samuel Leeper and wife on July 17, 1902 and recorded in the
records of St. Joseph County in Deed Record 122, page 379. It being the intention of
this deed to convey property which should have been included in the Condemnation
Resolution. No. 2481."

The matter of brick pillars on Mishawaka Avenue between 30th and 35th Streets at
intersection was discussed and the Secretary was instructed to write the Colpaert
Realty Company asking them to have these pillars removed, they being on City property.
The meeting adjourned at 12:00 o'clock noon.
