Minutes of meeting of August l9 th were read and approved. Claims in the amount of $8,767.58 were'approved and ordered paid,_also salaries for various departments amounting to $5,671.33. D. 4.00 Mr. Longenecker reported on progress made in the Cemetery and stated that he was promised some help which would be furnished by W. P. A. A Petition signed by four property owners requesting alley between Cedar and Notre Dame Avenues from Hill Street to St LouisBoulevard be improved by construction of concrete pavement was read and rejected by the Board. The Cooke Sign Company requested -permission to hang a sign overhead from the Palais Royale to the old Bloch and Kuehl building, advertising the Dog Show to be displayed from August 26th to September 9th. The Board granted the request. Mr. Anderson brought up the question of Indemnity Insurance on Ford Truck used in the Engineering Department and instructed the Secretary to have this included with the Street Department equipment. Mr. Anderson, City Civil Engineer, filed plans and the Board adopted said plans together with the following Vacation Resolution: COPY OF VACATION RESO-LUTION NO. 2483 RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,_I1`TDIANA: That it is - desirable to vacate the following: ALLEY NORTH OF RANDOLPH STREET from Marine Street to the lst Alley west of Marine Street. The following property may be injuriously or beneficially effected by such vacation Lots 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 16,-19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 in Fisher South Side Survey. Notice of this resolution shall be published on the 3rd day of September and on the loth day of September 1935 in the South Bend Daily Tribune and News -Times. This Board, at its office in the City Hall on the i day of September-1935 at 10:30 A. Thurn, Clerk of the Board Several members of the Plumbing Association appeared'`before the Board to protest against the Water Works'Department doing work that should be regularly turned over to the plumbers. Vx. Bradford, Super-intendent of the Water Works., was called into -;the conference. Mr. Anderson explained that the work under consideration was due to widening of streets on Federal projects and as it "had to be done at no expense to the property owners and the Water Works were equipped to do it that this was the only procedure that could be followed. He further informed the plumbers that on other projects of this nature the Board would be obliged to follow the same procedure. Mr. Albert Smith, one of the plumbers represented, brought up a question in reference to charge that should be made by the Water Works for a -two-inch tap at the new building of the Chemical Laboratory. He stated before he made his estimate of the • • cost he Asked the Water Works for a price.which was given him at $58.70. After the work Was done, he claimed he was charged an additional $33.44 which Mr. Bradford stated had alwaysbeen the charge before, although this was contradicted by all of the members of the Plumbing Association present. At this point there was a secret conference between.the Board and 1vlr. Bradford. The result of which was that Yx. Smith was refunded the $33.44. The meeting adjourned at 12:10 P. M. Board of Public Works ATTEST; Clerk SPECIAL MEETING AUGUST 29, 1935 Special meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Thursday, August 29, 1935 for the purpose of introducing the following Resolution: BE IT RESOLVED, By the Board of Public Works and Safety that the Common Council request the Judge of the St. Joseph Circuit Court to appoint appraisers to appraise the buildings upon property condemned by this Board under its Condemnation Resolution Number 2481, which buildings become the property of the City upon payment for the real estate upon which the sane are situated and a list of which buildings are hereto attached and made a part hereof.
