Meeting April 1st, 1935
Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Mcaday, April lst, 1935 at
11:50 A. M. All members were present.
The minutes of meetings of March 23rd, 25th and 26th were read and approved.
Claims in the amcant of $1,864.15 were allowed.
The Board approved plan for a filling station at the Southwest corner of Calvert &
Irwyckenham Drive submitted by Andrew Gunderma n.
This being the day advertised for tbe: opening of bids for the purchase of a new
street sweeper, the Board considered bids as submitted by the Austin -Western Road
Machinery Co. of Aurora 111. and the Elgin Street Sweeper Co. of Elgin, Ill. The
bids were identical at 66,690.00 with optional modes of settlement deferred payments
bearing 6% interest. After fully considdring both bids, the Board decided to pur-
chase the Elgin Sweeper, subject to confirmation by the Common Council. ;
Mr. Weer riade a ditailed report of the work done in, the Street Department during the
month of March.
Mr. Qualls sulanitted the following proposal for the reduction of street lighting
expense which was approved by the Board:

In order to further reduce the street lighting expense, and take care of the Western
Ave. -Walnut St. underpass lighting and traffic signals, I desire to submit the
following recommendations:
Reduce Lumen outut of lights on Chapin Street:
Lights Number 2577 to 2590, inclusive, Washington St. to Napier St. Change from
5000 lumen to 2500 lumen. Save $117.60
Lights Number 2591 to 2612, inclusive, Napier St. to Monroe St. Change from
5000 lumen to 4000 lumen, Save $26.40
Lights Number 2972 to 2986, inclusive, Monroe St. to Ford St. Change from 6000:.
lumen. to 2500 lumen. Save $126.00
Lights Number 2874 to 2890, inclusive, Ford St. to Prairie Ave. Change from
5000 lumen to 2500 lumen. Save $142.80
Total annual saving on Chapin St. - $412.80
Special Lights on Sample Street:
Lights Dumber 3148 .and 3149. KEEP TO RIGHT signs and railroad bridge. Remove these
electric signs and install red reflectors, save $40.00
Lights Numb-er 3009 to 3012, inclusive, red lights on fence west of Fellows St.
Remove these lights, save $80.00
Total saving on Sample St. $120.00

Mr. Qullas was instructed by the Board to confer with the representatives of the
Indiana & Michigan Electric Co. with a -view to arriT-t-ng at a definite contract
fpr the illumination of the City. Mr. pualls was instructed to submit a plan for
the illumination of the underpass at We ern Ave. and Walnut St.
The Secretary submitted a request from residents in the vicinity of Arnold St. and
Prairie Ave. for a light now on the list of outages to be reinstalled on Arnold St.
between Prairie Ave. and Indiana Ave. The matter was referred to Mr. Qualls for
investigation.
Mr. Anderson, City Civil Engineer, submitted the following assessment redistribu-
tion which was approved by the Board:

The matter of purchasing city directories for various departments was discussed and
as there did not seem to be an appropriation in the Board of Public Works to cover
this service the Board postponed actionuntil a later date.
Fire and Tornado insurance on the City Hall and nine fire stations placed through
A. Lynn Minzey in the Indiana Lunhermen"s Mutual Insurance Co. of Indianapolis in
the amount of 29 , 775.00- was app-roved by the Board.
Riot and Civil Commotion insurance on the City Hall and contents" in the amount of
16,750.00 placed through A. Lynn Minzey in the Indiana Lumbermen's Mutual Insurance
Co. of Indianapolis, Indiana was approved by the Board.
Mr. Fred Corporan appeared before the Board and offered to sell the city metal forms
for sidewalk and curb construction, same being approximately 450 ft of curb,- 300 ft.
of setupt sidewalk forms and two sets of radius iron's. The matter was referrred to
the City Engineer.
Plumbers' bond for 0. J. Slhoemaker and Noah Malott in the Home Indemnity Co. of
New York were approved by the Board.
Excavation bond for Noah. Malo.tt in the Home Indemnity Co. of New York was approved by
the Boa rd.
The Board adjourned its' morning session at. 12:30, reconvened at 2 P. M. and adjourned
at 3 P. M. � _
