HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/26/10 Board of Public Safety Meeting MinutesPUBLIC AGENDA SESSION JANUARY 26, 2010 The Board of Public Safety met in the Public Agenda Session at 8:09 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2 2010 with President Juanita Dempsey and Board Members Patrick D. Cottrell, Bruce BonDuran and Laura Vasquez present. Board Member Eddie Miller was absent, Also present were Police Chi Darryl Boykins, Fire Chief Howard Buchanon, and Board Attorney Thomas Bodnar. Martin, Clerk REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 26 2010 The Board of Public Safety met in the regular meeting at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, with President Juanita Dempsey and Board Members Patrick Cottrell, Bruce BonDurant, and Laura Vasquez present. Board Member Eddie Miller was absent. Also present were Police Chief Darryl Boykins, Fire Chief Howard Buchanon and Board Attorney Thomas Bodnar. The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13"' Floor County City Building, South Bend, Indiana, ACCEPT MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS President Dempsey advised that if there were no objections by members of the Board, the minutes of the Public Agenda Session, Executive Session, and Regular Meetings of the Board held on. December 16, 2009 would be accepted as presented. FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCEPT COMMENDATION FOR RIVER RESCUE OF DECEMBER 21 2009 The Board of Safety joined Chief Buchanon in recognizing and congratulating the following Fire Department personnel for their heroic life saving performance in the line of duty. Upon a motion by Mr. BonDurant, seconded by Mr. Cottrell and carried, the following commendation was approved and entered into the minutes. JANUARY 26, 201 Q WHEREAS, the Board of public Safety wishes to issue commendations to individuals that perform meritorious service on behalf of the citizens of this community, and; WHEREAS, such service shall be recognized by the Board of public Safety and appropriate commendation shall be presented to the individuals performing said meritorious service; THEREFORE, commendation be given to: Coordination of the rescue efforts were assisted by Dispatcher Carrie Green of the South. Bend Communications Center and several South Bend Police Officers that responded to the scene, The time of day, cold weather conditions, and moving water all contributed to the dangers confronted by responding crews during this rescue. The vigilance, preparation, quick action, and heroic efforts of all individuals involved in this rescue are directly responsible for the survival f both victims. Be it further resolved that Robert Means, Michael Jamieson, Thomas Pennino, Christopher Cox, Rodney LaBonte, Steven Nusbaum, Corey Powell, Ryan Kakalia, and Carrie Green be commended and recognized for their quick actions, dedication, and professionalism. This 911 call was on the Mishawaka side of the city line. Hamilton recognized that South Bend units were closer to this emergency and dispatched those units in order to minimize response time to the call. Cold weather conditions, moving water, and the high angle embankment contributed to the dangers confronted by the rescue crews during this rescue. The vigilant preparation, quick action, and heroic efforts of all individuals involved in this rescue are directly responsible for saving this woman's life. Be it further resolved that Brian Koloszar, Aaron LaCava, Andrew Petrie, Philip Smith, Brett McVoy, Sham-ion Pohl, Matthew Baker, Jared Pearish, and Matthew Hamilton be commended and recognized for their quick actions, dedication, and professionalism. The Board accepted for filing the report as submitted. There being no further discussion, the donation was accepted and filed.
