Re: Sewer Connection at
623 Kea sey Street
then the origins sewer -.was put in on Keasey Street, August 3rd., 1899, no
sewer tape were run from the main sewer to the curb line. May 1, 1918, Mrs. C rrie Las
who owned the property at that time,, let a contract to F. P. Futter, plumber, ;o run th
tap from the imin sewer to her property line. Our Record shows that permit no.7014
was Issued to Mr. Futter for this tap on that dote.
A s recently this sewer connection clogged and the present owner, Y'rs. Arnol
had e plumber dig down to the main sewer and he found that it was cl6gged where the con
nection was made to the main sewer. The property in question is on the north side of
the street and when the sewer was uncovered we Hound that there was a Y in the main
sewer pointing to the south. 15r. Futter connection on this Y with some curves and
elbows enc this is wh ere the clogging of the sewer took place.
The City is in no way responsible for this work but as 11r. cutter is out
of business snd there is no way of collecting from him, I have adjusted this utter
as per your instructions and told Mr. Kirkley, who is representing `ors. Arnold, that
the city of South Bend would repair the sewer and rake a -roper connection with the
main sewer and would replace the pavement which had been taken up, at no cost to
Mrs. Arnold..
The City, however, will not stand any of tt3 a expense for the plumber who
was employed by Mrs. Arnold to find out what was wrong with the sewer.
It is understood in making this adjustment that the City is in no way re-
sponsible for the poor connection made by err. flutter and our only reason for making
this settlement is due to the fact that Mr. Futter is not responsible at this time,
and. we feel that ers. Arnold who purchased t'^e property without knowing the condition,
should be relieved of, this expense.
Respectfully,
4lliam S. P,:oore, City Civ41 Engineer.
