The follcwing letter from the Board of Health was referred to City Engineer, We S. Moore, and returned to the office of the Board of Works, on July 21. "July 19, 1933 Department of. Public Works South bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: Replying to your letter of the 18th.: It will be necessary that a counter be installed. in the west room of the quarters to be occupied by the Health Department In the City Hall. One of the counters we are no using can be transferred or a new one built. When that has been donil it will be agreeable with us for you to complete the arrangements for the moving of ' our furniture, safes, files, etc. Will you also please arrange for the telephone service and the transfer of the buzzer, which leads from the Clerk's desk to the other room. Very truly yours, Board of health J. B. Berteling, Seey." The following letter, also from the Health Department was ordered read and placed on file: • .l • • • 9 Monday, July 24th. , 1933 '(39 "July 22, 1933 Board of Public Works, i South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: ��Building The Board. of Health requests that the lettering on the doors to the former Department and on the wall plate on the mewin floor be ganged, indicating ;;where the .ice rd of Health and the inspectors can be found. There is also some carpenter work to be done incident to the change drum j the old to the new quarters. i Will you kindly give this your attention. Yours truly, Board. of Health By C. A. Griffith, D. D. S., President. P. S. We will give the painter the lettering we deem necessary." i In the above matter, ,the Board instructed the Clerk to ssk Mr.,A. 11. Long 'of the Street Department to arrange to have the necessary carpenter work taken sere of by some one in his department. The matter of the dangerous condition of the street car track area on jMichigan Street between. Broadway and Dayton Streets was discussed. The Board instructed • iClerk Of the Board to notify the Northern Indiana Railway Company to make the necessary. 'repairs in order to make the street safe for pedestrian traffic. Mr. John Frenze of 420 S. Lafayette Street, appeared before the Board with a request to be allowed to paint the house numbers on the curb and collect a fee of .15 from the property owners. After careful consideration of this matter, the Board in- structed the Clerk to advise hr. Frenze that they do not wd.sh to become involved in the matter, as their previous experience in a matter of the same kind a few years ago, vas such that they do not care to expose themselves to the same criticism. This being the date set, hearing was had on the assessment roll, showing the laward of dameges and the assessments of benefits in the atter of the vacation of the alley east of Francis Street from St. Vincent Street to Mey north of St. Vincent • IStreet, under Vacation Resolution No.2476. • • In the above named assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written emonstances were filed. Clerk of the Board submitted proofs of delivery of notices nd same were found sufficient. After n'��ring: all persons interested in said vacation 2d being fully advised in the premises, the Board finds that the several lots and arcels of land have been benefited and damged in the amounts shown on said roll.. The card, therefore, decides to take final action on said. assessment roll and declares ame in all things ratified, confirmed and approved without modification and the pro- eed ings closed, and the alley vacated and all proceedings had with reference to said lley vacation are hereby sustained.. The Eoard c laims f or various departments in the sum of $11,055.00 and hereby ers City Controller to pay same. The Board approved pay rolls in the sum of $7,602.47 for various departments hereby orders City Controller to pay same. Meeting adjourned at 4 P.. M. ttest: Clerk
