HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-16-16 CCAC Meeting Minutes A, yr Community/Campus Advisory Coalition (CCAC) MARY'S SAINT © HIRED, 1 1 The March 16, 2016 Community/Campus Advisory Coalition (CCAC) was called to order by Council Member at Large Gavin Ferlic at 3:30 p.m. at the SBCC Informal Meeting Room. Persons in attendance included the following individuals representing the following entities: Gavin Ferlic South Bend Common Council fg erlic(d�southbendin.gov Adriana Rodriguez City of South Bend arodrigu(&southbenin.gov\ Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand City of South Bend kfarrand @southbendin.gov Joe Molnar City of South Bend jrmolnar(a,southbendin.gov John Voorde City of South Bend jvoorde(a,southbendin.gov Tian Sexton Notre Dame sexton306,nd.edu David Gariepy St. Mary's College dgariepy a,saintmarys.edu Mark Costello SBPD Representative SAINT MARY'S COLLEGE UPDATES CONCERN: Saint Mary's has a new president of the college Jan Cervelli. She will begin in June. There will be a ground breaking of the new Angela Atheltic Center very soon which will encompass and expand upon the existing building. HOLY CROSS COLLEGE UPDATES/CONCERNS No one from Holy Cross was present. UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME UPDATES/CONCERNS The new boathouse on the St. Joseph River is complete and the dock is currently being built. The outside lighting has been dimmed due to some complaints from neighbors. The facility will have a bathroom specifically for public use and overseen by the Parks Department. In June there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new ND Lab at Ignition Park. They are already moving some of the machinery into place and people are getting ready to work there. There have been end of the year reminders for good behavior by the students even though many are leaving South Bend very soon. INDIANA UNIVERSITY SOUTH BEND UPDATES/CONCERNS No one from IUSB was present. RESIDENTS/NEIGHBORS UPDATES AND CONCERNS There was positive feedback from the NorthWest neighborhood residents regarding the Police Department and how they have been handling situations the past few months. This has been due to good and open communication between off campus students, the police, the University, and residents. CITY OF SOUTH BEND UPDATES/CONCERNS Police: No major issues/citations filed regarding any of the local colleges and students lately. Common Council: There will be drafts of the Chronic Nuisance Ordinance sent out soon. Two bills are coming up that will have a big impact on South Bend and the colleges. First, the Land Lord Registry which will help students have accurate and up to date information on their land lords. Second, smoke free ordinance which would ban all smoking in public buildings including bars. The Committee set the next meetings for April 21" starting at 4:30 p.m. with a chance for a social gathering at 5:30 p.m. between various city officials and the incoming and outgoing student leaders and the rest of the Committee Gavin Ferlic adjourned the meeting at 4:15 p.m. 2
