The February 26, 2015 Community/Campus Advisory Coalition (CCAC) was called to order by
Council Member at Large Gavin Ferlic at 3:30 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting Room, 4th
Floor County-City Building in downtown South Bend.

Council Member Gavin Ferlic called the meeting to order at 3:30 and thanked everyone for being
there. He advised they are looking into when will be the best time to send out the student survey
for maximum results.
Ken Baierl: He shared that IUSB purchased Club Landing. A pipe burst in January which
caused major damage, which may result in the building being demolished. There are 2 other
homes on the property that will be demolished as well so they are deciding what the best use of
the property will be. They are looking to make the entrance to IUSB from Lincolnway more
attractive.
McKenna Schuster: Student body elections are soon and the change-over will be mid-April.
She had an incident recently where a cab refused to take her to St. Mary's. She will get info to
Tasha. Tasha stresses that it's important for these incidents to be reported to her, and then to
follow through until the end with Tasha so that the cab companies can be fined.
Robert Lulgjuarj: Holy Cross is currently doing a clothing drive with St. Vincent's. Recently
had the Homecoming basketball game, which Mayor Pete attended. He advised the taxi
information was passed on to students. Student body elections are March 30 and turnover will
be at the end of the semester.
Lt. Hechlinski: No updates from SBPD. Big reminder about warning up vehicles and leaving
them running and unlocked— leads to car thefts. Tim Sexton asked about promoting safety tips
for St. Patrick's Day celebrations.
David Gariepy: Recently met with the student senate about campus safety concerns. No issues.
LouElla Webster: There will be renovations at Kelly Park. Community getting involved and
they have received substantial donations from several entities for supplies and material.
Gail Mancini: No new updates. They are receiving grants again after a dry spell. Candidates
are being reviewed for the Dean's position.
Dan Allen: Working on creating a single database/search for off campus housing. Wanting to
have more detailed information on one place for people to search. He advises that the campus
safety video is almost complete.
Marguerite Taylor: Neighborhoods are quiet now. The Robinson Center celebrated their 40th
anniversary and there was a large turnout for the celebration! She advises that there will be a bus
tour on campus scheduled for April 11"'. There was a suggestion to add St. Mary's and Holy
Cross to the tour.
Katie Wood: New website it almost up and running. Working on the release of a mobile app.
Through the app you will be connected to dispatch. The soft release is set for March Yd and if
there are no issues it will be released March 16th
Tim Sexton: Campus is quiet. He mentions the South Shore— Sunrise Express which will run
from South Bend to Millennium Station in Chicago. It's on a trial basis for a year. Working
with SB Parks on the Boathouse. The Scholars Building will be torn down, which will allow
more room for additional buildings and an additional dock. The goal is to reach out to the
community so that kids learn about the sport.
Tasha Reed Outlaw: She thanks everyone for notifying students about the taxi issues. She
again says it's important that they follow through with her for the whole process so that the cases
go to hearings. She advises that there will be 2 code inspectors working on football Saturdays.
She would also like to see something posted at the airport with licensed cab information so that
visitors can get a legitimate cab. Lt. Hechlinski brought up a bike "cab" issue on game days.
Tasha was not aware and will check into this. She advised that letters are going on about the
temporary parking permits to make people aware that they must get a permit for lawn parking.
She also wants to make people aware of the new compost ordinance.
Sand Garces: He advises he is working with Code and Legal regarding snow removal.
Looking at some different avenues for residents in need who are close to schools and the vacant
and abandoned properties. He asks for permission to send a URL for a survey (Survey is not
through the City) to Gavin for disbursement.
The next CCAC meeting was tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 3:30 p.m.
at the County-City Building, 4d'Floor, Council Chambers.
Council Member Gavin Ferlic thanked everyone and adjourned the meeting at 4:15 p.m.
