Board met in regular session Pt 9 ?! -M. My. M. E Doran Absent. Minutes
of meetings held January I4th . , and January I5jh. , 1930, read and approved.
This being the ae to set, continued hearing; was had on the assessment roll
showing the Awards of donages and assessments of benefits in the Vacation of Esther
Street .from the south line of Wayne Street to the north lino of Sunnymeae Avenue under
Vacation Resolution MOM.
In the above r med assessment roll, no remonstrators Appeared and no"
written remonstrance was filed and the Board, being filly advised in the premises,
finds thQt the several lots and parcels of land have been benedited and damaged in
I the =^mounts shown on said assessment roll. The Board. , therefore, decides to take
II final action on said. assessment roll and decleres same in all things ratified, confirm
ed and approved .and the street vacated and a;ll proceedings had with reference to said
vacation resolution No.23I8 are hereby sustained and the proceedings closed..
City Engineer, H. G. Tray, filed the primary assessment roll showing the
awards of damages and assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of the alle
east of Sunnyside Avenue from Sorin Street to to north 1 ite of the alley south of
So rin Street under Vacs. t ion Resolution No .2 27 6.
In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that on the
161 Tlth., Say of 1930, this Board will meet in their office in the City Hall at
I0:00 A. Y , to hear end receive remonstrances from all persons whose property has
been affected b7 such vecptioph and will decide whether the several lots and parcels
of land have been or will be benefited or damaged in the amounts short7on said roll.
! The Board further orders that notices of said hearing shall be delivered to property
1; owners according to lave.
The Board approved claims in the amount of =r08.77 for various departments

With further reference to our conversation yesterday, I am enclosing

permission for this office to dispatch mail to and receive upi 1 from the South Bend

1 am sending this direct to you and if I am not asking too mach will
you see the t the matter is presented to the Board end handled in such manner as to
preclude publicity at this time as that might interfere with the successfully consum-

ation of our plans.
I hope, too, that the matter may be presented to the Board at their
next meeting, as I am anxious to get the service started if the government can be pre-
vailed upon tb authorize it.

A number of manufacturers, bankers and business men have petitioned me,
through the Charter of Commerce, to e r envor to 1n ve the Post Of_ii ce Dep2rtme nt estab-
lish a ressenpe r route between this office and the South Bend Air port for delivery of

Airmail service from this city is very unsatisfactory and these men be-

lieve that with improved service business men end citizens hero might become more`" it

Before such an arrnngement coule be made it would be necessary to _
obtain permission for this office to dispatch rail to end receive mail from the planes

this service. These business men, however, propose to subsidize the messenger so as
to influence the government to G. favorable consideration of the proposition.

The Board eppibved. plans for the alteration of the City H,ll as sub-
mitted by Freyem- oath an6 T4" Baer, architects, end in view of the fe ct the t an emergency
exists in pT-oviding a suitable office in which the City'Controller can comply with
the laver in collecting assessments under the BRrrett lair, the Board hereby exercises
it's right to 1raive the formality of advertising for sealed proposals covering these
alterations and the Board, hereby, ord rs the clerk of this Board to notify at least
four representative contractors that sealed proposals will be received up to 10:00 A.

The Loa.rd hereby orders th.pt beginning January 1, 1930, and until
rigineer, ,T. C. ��ray anal Hazel A. Turner, Clerk of the Board of
farther orders, City
Public fiorks, shall receive the sum.s of 4,000.00 and 1,200.00 annually respectively,
for Track Elevation Fork. These salaries to be in addition to the regular salaries
of the City Civil Engineer and. the Clerk of the Board. of Public forks, as provided by
law. The above order is issued on authority of the Track Elevation bets of 1923
calling_ for the services of the City Engineer end the necessary clerk for Track Eleva-
ti on.
