Dear Sirs:
1ith the return of attached uetition for an asphalt type of pavement on Fox
Street between lueer atreet and Sampson Street, I submit the following report:
"There are 38 resident property owners along this proposed improvement,
24 of whom signified their Preference for an asphalt paverr.ent. This constitutes a
majority and I would, therefore, recom-end that a final order be made for sheet asphalt
pavement.

pavement on said street be changed from concrete Pavement to sheet asphalt pavement

sheet asphalt Pavement heavy traffic as the tyre of Pavement with which said street sha

Bids having been received for the pavement of the alley south of !Tonro
Monroe Street from Co.rroll Street to the first alley west of ` arroll Street under
Improvement Resolution No.2249, the Board this 2nd., day of July I929, hereby awards;
the contract for said improvement to Harry N. Barnes at his low bid of 559.00 for
conere.e pavement.
The Board approved the contract for the purphase of light bulbs
for the Trunicipal Air port in the total amount of ` 300.00, subject to a discount of •
21% instandard pac'�ages and II% in broken packages.
The Board approved the Guarantee Bond of 7. T. Tranberg for the
grade, curb, walk and sewer on Corby Street from the east line of 3rd. , Plat of
Park Place -6'ddition to point 156.2 feet east under Improvement Resolution No.2210t
in the amount of II65.I3, which is I0% of the total amount due the contractor.
The Board approved the renewal certificate of Joseph B. Fleck
for excavation bond in the amount of II,000.00 signed by the Ya.ryland Casualty Co.
This being the date set, hearing was had on the assessment roll
for the local sewer in Greenlawn avenue from G. T. V. R. R. to Chester Street under .
improvement Resolution No.2200.
In the above named assessment roll, the Board decides to continue
hearing until Tuesday, July 9th. , 1929.
This being the date set, hearing was had on the assessment roll
showing the awards of damages and the assessment of benefits in the matter of the
Vacation of Twenty second Street from Jefferson Blvd. , to Sunnymede Avenue under
7acation Resolution No.22I7.
In the above named assessment roll, the Board decides to continue
hearing until Tuesday, July 9th. , I929.
The Board signed the contract with Reith Riley Construction Co., I
for the pavement improvement on streets in connection Leith Track Elevation under
Improvement Resolution 7-To.2I25A in the amount of 53,636.40. The Board also approved
the construction bond of same in the amount of 50�' of the contract price signed by
the Southern Surety Company. !;
The Board signed the contract ;-;ith Williston Construction Co.,
for the nave-ent on 1-3e7Ter Avenue from the east curb line of 'ddy Street to Tlishawa'.<a
Avenu under Improvement Resolution No.225I in the amount of I2,843.50. The Board
also approved the construction bond of same in the amount of 501, of the contract
trice signed by the Inland Bonding company.
The Board signed the contaact with Joseph Rothwell for the
construction of a local seLr r in Olive Street from Mwood Avenue to feller Street
under Improvement Resolution lo.2223 in the amount of 2,4I8145. The 3oard also
approved the construction bond of same in the amount of 100of the contract priceit
signed by Columbia Casualty Company.

been assessed for said improvements and will decide nhether the se-reral lots and rarcel
of land have been or will.be benefited in the amount named on said primary assessment
rolls or in a greater or less sum than that named on said rolls. The Board further
orders that notices of said hearings -,shall be published on the 5th. , day of July and
on the 6th. , day of July I929, in the South Bend Nevis Times and Tribune according to
law.
This being the date set, hearing was had on the assessment roll for the
grade, curb, wale and sewer on Corby Otreet from east line of 3rd. , Plat Par' Place

In the above na:-r:ed assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no
written rer-onstrance was filed and the 3oard, being fully advised in the premises,
finds that the several lots and parcels of land have been benefited in the amounts
named on said assessment roll. The Board, therefore, ta'--es final action on said
roll and declares same in all things ratified, confirmed and approved and the proceed-
ings closed. The Board now orders said assessment roll delivered to the Department of
Finance.

This being the date set, hearing was had on Improvement Resolution
No.2248 for the construe ion of grade and sidewalk on LaSalle Avenue from east curb
line of ^,ddy Street to the west line of Lot33 Kuhn's Ist. , Sunnyside Sub -division.

In the above named improvement resolution, no remonstrators appeared
and no written remonstrance was filed and the Board, being fully advised in the
premises, finds that the benefits to the several lots and parcels of land liable
to be asseseed for said improvement will be equal to the estimated cost of same as
reported by the City Civil 4igineer. The Board, therefore, decides to t a?ce final
action on said Improvement Resolution and declares same in all things ratified,
confirmed and approved �FFlthout modification.
The Board now orders in the matter of the above named improvement
resolution No.2248, that on the I6th., day of July I929, this Board gill receive,
open and consider sealed proposals for the construction of said improvement up to
I0:00 A. _71. The Board further orders that notices of said proposals shall be pub-
lished on the 5th. , day of July and on the I2th. , day of July I929, in the South:
Bend News Times and Tribune according to law.

and the Board adopted said plans and specifications together with a resolution for
the pavement of the alley south of Division atreet from Scott -Street tp Chapin
Street under Improvement Resolution 1To.2257. (See files for copy of resolution.)
In the above named improvement resolution, the Board hereby orders
that on the 23rd. , day of July I929, this Board will meet in their office in the
City Hall at I0:00 A. M., to hear and receive remonstrances from all persons whose
property is liable to be assessed for said improvement and will decide whether the
benefits to the several lots and parcels of land liable to be assessed for said
improvement will be equal to the estimated cost of same as reported by the City
Engineer. The Board further .orders that notices of said hearing shall be published
in the South Bend News Times and Tribune on the 5th., day of July and on the I2th
day of July I929 according to law and that notices be mailed to property owners
according to law.
Clilms amounting to *12,I43.89 for the various departments :rere
signed and approved by the Board.

Bids having been received for the pavement of Bendix Drive from the south
line of Division Street to the north line of Sample Street under Improvement Resolu
tion Wo.2229, the Board, this 2nd. , day of July 1929, hereby makes a preliminary
order for sheet asphalt pavement light traffic as the type of pavement with which
said street shall be improved and sets the I6th. , day of July 1929, as the time
when said Board shall either pass on petitions for a change in the type of pavement
other than that specified in the preliminary order, award the contract or reject all
bids.
This being the date set, continued hearing was had on the assessment roll
for the awards of damages and assessments of benefits in the matter of the widening
of Sample Street from a point 295.05 feet west of Fellows Street to the west property i
line of Clinton Street under Condemnation Resolution No.2I97.

the Board decides to modify said assessment roll as follows:
Increase the amount of damages awarded Charles D. Hildebrand in the amount
of "1,482.30, or allowing him.a total amount of damages of ?I4,455.00 and the City to

The Board signed the contract with Williston Const. , Co. for the
pavement on Main street from Fairview Avenue to the. alley south of' Woodside Street under 1,
Improvement Resolution No.2226 in the amount of 37,601*75. The Board also approved the
construction bond of same in the amount of 50% of the contract price signed by Inland j
Bonding Company.
The Board signed the contract with Williston Construction Company for;
the pavement on Meade street from Lincoln Way Vest to Elwood Avenue under Improvement
Resolution No.2227 in the amount of 18,256.77. The Board also approved the construction,)
bond of same in the amount of 50 0 of the contract price signed by Inland Bonding Co.
The Board signed the contract with H. N. Barnes for the pavement
of the alley south of Monroe Street from Carroll Street to the first alley west of Carroll
Street under Improvement Resolution No.2249 in the amount of 559.00. The Board also
approbed the construction bond of same in the amount of 100% of the contract price.
The hoard signed the contract with H. N. Barnes for the grade, curb
and walk improvement on Campeau Street from the east line of Park Place to Harriett
Street under Improvement Resolution No.2233 in the amount of 2#7`59.69. The Board also
approved the construction bond of same for 100* of the .contract price.
