A. Freeman and A. A. Frederick as personal sureties. "With the return of the attached remonstrance against the paving of the first alley west of Sherman Avenue from Oak street to Lincoln 'Alay +hest, I sutn'oit the ,I following report: There are 48 resid=nt property o,rners residing -on this alley, 13 of whom have signed the remonstrance. Moore and Charles s"l. Cole to serve on a committee with the City Civil gineer in the preparation of the assessment roll for the Northwest Trunk Sew.erg at a salary of 1500.00 each. The Board also approved incidental expenditures for this work in the amount of $1500.00, making a total sum of 4500.00 to bse expended in the preparation of this assessment roll. The Board approved the recommendation of Gity Engineer, Mr. H. G. Wray, concerning concrete specifications. Mr. - rlrayts recommendation is as follows: t1The Board of Public Works, South. Bend, Indiana. Dear Sirs: The Board will remember of the investigation by questionnaire instituted by this department -a short time ago seeking information from cities in Indiana and parts of Michigan concerning the types and design of modes---n city pavements in use; and, furthermore, that the results of such investigation disclosed that most all cities replying to the questionnaire were using reinforcing steel in both their light and heavy traffic concrete pavement types. Those cities,, however, that reported no steel in their light and heavy concrete pavement types were using a somewhat thicker slab construction than is used in bouth Bend. Your Board will also recall that several informal discussions were #ad with the Engineer relative to this matter and that it was substantially conceded that the light traffic concrete pavement type now in use in South Bend should contain som". reinforcement in order to be _n line with and consistent with the other cities in Indiana .using concrete types of pavements. Wray, filed the tabulation of bids for the walk and curb improvement on North side of Mishawaka Avenue from west line of Lot 500 Whitcomb and Keller 3rd., Sunnymede Addition to a point 29 feet east of the west line of Lot 506 said Addition under Improvement Resolution 14o.2053. yvhitcomb and Keller 853.00 Bids having been received for the construction of walk and curb on the North side of Mishawaka Avenue -under Improvement Resolution No.2053, the Board this 24th., day of April I928, hereby awards the contract for said imp_ rovement to Whitcomb and Keller at .their low bid of 853.00. City .:engineer, H. G. ,gray, submitted partial estimate No.I for the pipe sewer improvement in Brookfield Street between Vassar venue and Humbilt Street in accordance with the terms of the contract between the City and John F. Hipskind, contractor under Improvement Resolution No.2030. The Board signed and approved same in the amount of 907,47. City Engineer, H. G. Wray submitted partial estimate No.I for the pipe sewer improvement in the alley south of Uampeau ztreet from -'Trances Street to the center line of Lot 5 in Turnoek and Hartman's pub. , in aceof dance with the terms of the contract between the City and nocco Simeri under Improvement Resolution No.I96I. The Board now orders that a list or roll be prepared of all owners and holders!; of property and of valuable interests therein sought to .be taken or to be injuriously affected, which list or roll shall also describe the property beneficially affected and shall show the awards of ,damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter j of this condemnation., The Board, hereby appoints Edward Pfeiffer, David Gibson and Roy Michaebs to act as appraisors in the matte of the assessment of damages and the award of benefits on the Twenty Second Street ondemnation. The Board signed and approved claims in the amount of 5,898.57.
