(DST). All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Contract Supplements for Indiana Avenue Contracts No. 1-A and No. 2-A under the 1956 General Street Improvement program are approved this 23rd day of September, 1957 as submitted by Chas. W. Cole & Son. Contractor's bonds were approved for Floyd J. Wachowiak, Midland Engineering Company, Bellville Lum- ber Company, Colpaert Realty Company, Jesse D. Matthews, and Cecil M. Smith. A letter was received from the City Planning Commission favorably recommending the vacation of Oak Park Drive from White Oak Drive to Twyckenham Drive subject to retention of utility easements. Matter now referred to the City Engineering Department for preparation of a Vacation Resolution. :1 • 1�1 • 657 0 • • U • A petition is hereby submitted to the Board asking for the improvement of Camden Street from Webster St. to Washington Street by the construction of a local sewer according to Barrett Law Program. Petition referred to the City Engineer for investigation and recommendation. Traffic Engineer, Ernest H. Miller, recommends the installation of the following traffic signs: No Parking This Side signs installed on Almond Court, north side, from Notre Dame Avenue to Dedd End of Street No Parking This Side signs installed on north side of LaSalle Street from L.W.W. to first alley east. Stop sign installed on Elwood Avenue, northeast corner, at Portage Avenue. Stop sign installed on Cleveland Road, southwest corner, at Riverside Drive. Stop sign installed on Donald Street, both sides, at William Street. Stop sign installed on Holiday Drive, both sides, at Wilson Avenue. i' Verner L.. Lane submitted to the Board a Certificate of Occupance and Compliance which certified that the Fire Station located at 2404 Twyckenham Drive complies the the Zoning and Building Ordinances of the City of South Bend, and may lawfully be used for the purpose aforesaid. A letter is now received from Mr. Bert Liss, of the Indiana Cab Company requesting permission to move s; two of their present three spaces from the present position at the bus station to the north side of " Western Avenue at the corner of Michigan Street. This would continue service to the public which now uses the bus station locations. Also, to establish two taxi stand spaces on West Monroe Street in front of the new bus station to service that operation. Matter referred to the Traffic Engineer for investi- gation and report back at the next regular Board meeting. Mr. John Kagel, of the Association of Commerce Retail Division, requests permission.to place sample Christmas decoration womewhere on Michigan and Main Streets. Work to be done at night and will not in- terfere with traffic. Permission granted subject to these conditions. I The hearing set for today regarding the Alby real estate wherein the owners has caused the front of their building to overhang onto the city's public property will be continued until next Monday pending more thorough information to be submitted by the Building Department. Upon recommendation of the Building Commissioner permission is hereby granted to the Taylor Construction Company to occupy 20' of Sheridan Avenue along the side of 3921 Western Avenue and close 1st alley East ofSheridan Avenue north from Western Avenue from date to January 19 1957 during the construction of walkway in street. After due consideration concerning the bids of the Sanitation Department, contract for front end loader is awarded to the following company: INDIA M EQUIPMENT CONPANY, INC. Lakeville, Indiana A non -collusion affidavit and a bidder's bond in the amount of $2,000.00 accompanied the bid. One (1) International Model TD-14 with 14K3 Drott 4-1 loader with trade-in Total net price------------------------------------------------$19,897.00 VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2862, 1957 This being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment roll showing the award of damages and the assessment of benefits in the matter of the vacation of the ALLEY WEST OF IRONWOOD DRIVE, FROM OAK PARK DRIVE NORTH (140) FEET, under Vacation Resolution No. 2862, 1957. In the above named assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances were filed. The Clerk of the Board submitted proofs of publication of notices and same were found sufficient, and the Board therefore finds that the several lots have been benefited and damaged in the amounts shown on said roll. The Board, therefore decides to take final action on said assessment roll and declares same in all things ratified, confirmed and approved without modification and the proceedings closed, and the alley vacated upon receipt of the amount of benefit assessments from the various property own- ers so benefited and all proceedings had with reference to said vacation are hereby sustained. Pavement plans were approvedfor the Cushing Beale Streets improv ement and also the Lombardy Street im- provement. Scherman Schaus appeared before the Board and requested permission to use two (2) spotlights in observanc of their car sale. Permission granted. IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 2857, 1957 CONTRACTOR'S COMPETION AFFIDAVIT IN THE MATTER relating to the local sewer improvement on Duey Street made under improvement resolution No. 2857, 1957 and the plans and specifications, therefore comes now Cecil E. Dale who being duly sworn upon oath deposes and says his acquainted with Osceola Crane Service the party to whom was awarded the contract and who performed the work under Improvement Resolution No. 2857, 1957. CONTRACTOR'S COMPLETION AFFIDAVIT We hereby certify that the contract between the City of South Bend, Indiana, Owner, and the Cecil E. Dale d/b/a Osceola Crane Service Contractor, for the construction of the local sewer improvement on Duey St. from approximately 217 feet North of Howard Street south to Howard Street under improvement Resolution No. 2857, 1957 has been completed in accordance with the plans and spe6ifications for this project. BOARD APPROVES PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS The Profiles, Drawings, General Details, Specifications and Estimates for the improvement of Bergan Stree trunk sewer area from Johnson Street west to City Limits to Lathrop Street to Keller Street by construct- ing a trunk sewer are hereby approved NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNERS RESOLUTION NO. 2865, 1957 Notice is hereby given by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that it is deeided necessary to make the following described public improvement in the City of South Bend, Indiana, authorized by the following numbered Improvement Resolution, passed by said Board on the 23rd day of September, 1957: Improvement Resolution No. 28659 1957, for the improvement of Bergan Street trunk sewer area from Johnson Street west to City Limits to Lathrop Street to Keller Street by constructing a trunk sewer. The Board of Public Works & Safety will meet in its office in the City Hall on the 8th day of October, 1957 at the hour of 7:00 F.M. (CST) for the purpose of hearing and considering all remonstrances which may have been filed or which may �e presented. PETITION REFERRED TO ENGINEER The petition of Belleville Investment Company and 1 others for the improvement of Lombardy Drive from Linden Avenue to approximately 580' south of Linden Avenue by constructing a Class "B". Type 1 pavement is referred to you, for investigation and recommendation at the next regular meeting of this Board. CITY CIVIL ENGINEER'S RECOMMENDATION Referring to the Petition of Belleville Investment Company and 1 others for the improvement of Lombardy Drive from Linden Avenue to approximately 580' south of Linden Avenue by constructing a Class "B" Type 1 pavement, I would recommend that the petition be granted. ORDER TO ENGINEER FOR PRELIMINARY PLANS According to the recommendation of the City Civil Engineer concerning the petition of Belleville Invest- ment Company and 1 others for the improvement of Lombardy Drive from Linden Avenue to approximately 580' south of Linden Avenue, you are hereby directed to prepare preliminary plans, estimates, and the preliminary improvement resolution for improving such part of said street by constructing a Class "B" Type 1 pavement.
