A regular meeting of the Board of PublicWorks and Safety was held on Monday, August 26, 1957 at 10:00 A.M.
(DST). All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Claims
in the total amount of $129161.92 were approved and ordered paid to the following suppliers:

Stop signs were installed on Olive Street, both sides, at Sample Street and Yield Right of 'flay Signs were'
installed on Rush Street, both sides, at Wenger Street.
Hubert Woodcox, Contractor, requests permission to partially close the alley adjacent to Martin's I.G.A.
1439 Portage Avenue during construction of a basement. Permissi6nngranted subject to approval and consent'
by the property owners affected in that area and also the Building Commissioner, Verner L'. Lane.
Sewer Construction plans are hereby approved for York Road, Byron Drive, and Chelsea and Cornwall Courts
in Section "I" of Twyckenham Hills Addition.
The Dedication of Roadways and Utility Easements in Marshall Heights Addition in the City of South Bend,
Indiana is hereby approved this 26th day of August, 1957. Also approved are the Protective Restrictions
and plans pertaining to said Marshall Heights Addition.
The time now being after 10:00 A.M. (DST) it was so announced and the bids for the Hydraulic Avenue Im-
provemebt were opened and read aloud. Proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and In the Record
'with affidavits signed by C. G. Livengood and Ruby McManon were approved and found sufficient. The bids

IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION CONFIRMED
For the improvement of South Thirty Fourth Street under Improvement Resolution No. 2858, 1957 adopted Aug
ust 5, 1957 from East Jefferson Boulevard to East Washington Street by constructing an established grade,
storm drainage inlets and accepted curbing. After hearing all persons interested who appeared and being
fully advised on the premises and the Clerk of the Board having shown proofs of pbblication of the notices'';
to property owners and the same having been found sufficient, the Board decides that the benefits to the
property liable to be assessed for said improvement are equal to the estimated cost of the same as reported,;
by the City Civil Engine+ex, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that Improve-
ment Resolution No. 2858, 1957 duly passed by this Board on August 5, 1957, for the above improvement, be
and the same is hereby in all things confirmed for the construction of an established grade, storm drainage"

BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that the Pro-
filed, Drawings, Plans, General Details, Specifications and Estimates approved by this Board on the 5th
day of August, 1957 for the improvement of South Thirty Fourth Street from East Jefferson Boulevard to East`
Washington Street by constructing an established Grade, Storm Drainage Inlets and Accepted curbing be and
the same are hereby adopted and ordered placed on file in the office of the Department of Public Works and
Safety. September 9, 1957 at 10:00 A.M. (DST) is set as the time and the office of the Board as the place
when and where the Board of Public Works and Safety will open and consider bids.
The Clerk of the Board is hereby ordered to give notice by 2 weekly publications of the time and placa,
when and where bids will be received, opened and considered for the construction of said work. Said Clerk

For the improvement of North South Alley between Michigan and Main Streets under Improvement Resolution
NO. 28592 1957 adopted August 5, 1957 from West Calvert Street to Dayton Street by constructing a 7" con-
crete pavement. After hearing all persons interested who appeared and being fully advised on the premises
and the Clerk of the Board having shown proofs of publication of the notices to property owners and the
same having been found sufficient, the Board decides that the benefits to the property liable to be assess-
ed for said improvement are equal to the estimated cost of the same as reported by the City Civil Engineer,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that Imprue-
ment Resolution No. 2859, 19579 duly passed by this Board on August 5, 1957, for the above improvement,
be and the same is hereby in all things confirmed for the construction of a 7" concrete pavement on the
North South alley between Michigan and Main Street from West Calvert Street to Dayton Street and the im-
provement is hereby ordered to be made.

street to be improved, having been filed within the ten day period following the date and time of the
hearing on said improvement, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that Improve-
ment Resolution No. 2859, 1957, duly adopted by this Board on August 51 1957, and first confirmed on
August 26, 1957, be and the same is in all things finally confirmed and the improvement is hereby ordered

shown proofs of publication of the notices to property owners and the same having been found sufficient,
the Board decides that the benefits to the property liable to be assessed for said improvement are equal
to the estimated cost of the same as reporte d by the City Civil Engineer, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that Improve-
ment Resolution No. 28609 1957, duly passed by this Board on August 51 1957, for the above improvement,

VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2862, 1957
This being the date set, hearing was held on the Resolution heretofore adopted by the Board of Public Works',
for the vacation of THE ALLEY WEST OF IRONWOOD DRIVE, FROM OAK PARK DRIVE NORTH (140)FEET, under Vacation
Resolution No. 2B62, 1957.
The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared
before the Board and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, tt was moved, seconded
and unanimously carried that the said Resolution be finally adopted and the said alley be vacated.
The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of benefits
and the award of damages to the surrounding properties.

of benefits in the matter of the vacation of the ALLEY WEST OF IRONWOOD DRIVE, FROM OAK PARK DRIVE NORTH
(140) FEET, under Resolution No. 2862, 1957.
In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in the City Hall at 10:00
A.M. (DST) on the 23rd day of September, 1957 for the purpose of hearing and receiving remonstrances from
all persons interested in or affected by said vacation and the Board further orders that notice of said
hearing, tt9gether with the amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property
owners by publishing same on the/30th day of August, 6th day of September, and the 13th day of September,
1957 in the South Bend Tribune and the Record.
