All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. A letter is directed to Mr. David Gitlitz, Sinai Synagogue, reporting that repairing of the lawn on said ;property is now being taken care of by Chas. W. Cole & Son.. ;!Contract Supplement No. 1 (Change Order No. 1) of Indiana Avenue Contract No. 2 under 1956 General Street !'Improvement Program is hereby approved by the Board. Upon approval and recommendation of the Building and Traffic Engieering Departments, the request of the I. and M. Electric Company to install 2 signs, one on either side of their garage entrance at 401 East LaSalle' Street, is now approved by the Board this lst day of July, 1957. Contractor's bonds were approved for Harry Stanifer, Herron Murray, Gervase S. Thompson, H. G. Christman Construction Company, Edward Burton, Hilton Construction Company, Wendell Newman, and Carl H. McClellan. Bond is the amount of $1,000.00 is approved for any and all work completed in connection with the Streets in the City of South Bend for the Indiana Bell Telephone Company. A petition was received from several property owners on Elwood Avenue asking for the improvement of Elwood Avenue from Johnson Street to Olive Street by the construction of Stop sign and posted speed sign. Petition referred to Traffic Engineering Department for investigation and report. Ham the Wrecker submitted an application of permit to occupy 4 feet of Michigan Street along the front of 118 N. Michigan Street from date to July 25, 1957 during the wrecking of building for South Bend Parking Company. Approved by the Board. Traffic signs were installed at the following locations: Yield Right of Way signs on Brookton, both sides, at Alpine Street Stop Signs on Oak Ridge, both sides, at Oak Park Drive A petition was received from several property owners and residents in the immediate vicinity of St. Joseph Hospital requesting the City of South Bend of order St. Joseph Hospital, located at 401 N. Notre Dame Ave. to make some adjustments in the firing of their furnace to control the smell of coal gas, soot, and corrod- ing elements. Petition referred to City Engineering for investigation. At the June 24, 1957 regular meeting of the Council the following matter was referred to the Board for actin Councilman Hahn made a motion, seconded by Councilman Muszynski, that an ivestigation be made of the Gafill', Okl Company Station at the corner of South Bend Avenue and St. Louis Blvd. Councilman Hahn stated that the corner is a disgrace, and the matter referred to various departments for investigation and report. Also, Couniilman Muszynski, Lade a motion that the Board of Public Works and Safety instruct the Police Depart- ment to enforce the Resolution which the Council adopted relative to intra-city truck traffic on Olive Street. Councilman Carr seconded themotion. Matter taken under advisement. 608 1 The following G. M. Cutshaw, ADC representing USN; William H. Luck, Jean R. Ramey, and John R. Miller re- presenting the USAF; James E. Kerley representing USMC, and John Horan and Owen F. Slein representing the USA appeared before the Board as a delegation requesting approval from the Board to reserve 4 parking spac near the Post Office for their official vehicles during the day. Matter referred to the Traffic Engineer, Ernest H. Miller, for investigation and recommendation. Report due back at the regular meeting of the Boa on Monday, July 15, 1957. The final assessment rolls for Meade Street from Elwood Avenue to Bulla Street under Improvement Rew1ution No. 2834, 1956 and Donald and Douglas Streets from Kemble Avenue to Ewing Avenue under Improvement Reso lution No. 2844, 1956 are hereby approved by the Board this 1st day of July, 1957. l Mr. Anderson appeared before the Board requesting pP q g permission to close the 800 block Roosevelt Street (be-3, ginning at east end at Cushing Street) on Wednesday, July 3, 1957 at 9:00 P.M. for a Block Party. Permission granted subject to'clearing matter with the Police and Traffic Department. ! i July 49 1957 being a legal holiday according to the State of Indiana statutes, the city Hall will be closed all day od July 4, 1957. IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO, 2843, 1956 ENGINEER'S CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION We hereby certify that the contract between the City of South Bend, Indiana, Owner, and the Reed Construction Company, 2022 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, Indiana, Contractor, for the construction of the Local Combined Sewer improvement in Oakcrest Drive from 35th Street to Sylvan Glen and in Sylvan Glen from Oakcrest Drive';; to McKinley Avenue under Improvement Resolution No. 2843, 1956, has been completed in accordance with the plans and specifications for this project. The Board of Public Works and Safety of said City, at the Office of the Board in said City, will on the 15 day of July, 19579 at 10:00 A.M. (DST) receive and hear remonstrances against the amounts assessed againste: their property respectively, on said roll and will determine the question as to whether such lots or tracts of land have been or will be benefited by said improvment to the amounts named on said roll, or is greater or less than that names on said roll or in any sum. The monthly report of June, 1957 for the Building Department is hereby accepted and placed on file. Traffic Signs were installed as follows: Stop Sign installed on Scenic Drive, northeast corner, at Mayflower Road.
