All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Signed this 29th day of April, 1957. A letter was submitted to the Board from Chas. W. Cole & Son with reference to the total additional cost to the City due to the change in the curb and gutter design as recommended by Raymond S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, on Sample Street, Contract No. 3, 1956. • A petition was filed with the Board from Mr. & Mrs. John Jacobs and several others asking for the removal of the City Bus from Fox Street from Ironwood Drive to Twyckenham Street. Petition taken under advisement and the City Engineer is hereby authorized to make an investigation with reference to same. Contract Supplement No. 2, of Contract No. 3, 1956 on Sample Street improvement is hereby accepted and approved by the Board this 29th day of April, 1957. is The weekly report from the Street Department with reference to the total number of chuck holes patched in the City of South Bend during the week of April 22, 1957 through April 29, 1957 was accepted and placed on file. The plat for the Smith's Home Addition to the City of South Bend, Indiana is hereby approved by the Board of Public Works & Safety this 29th day of April, 1957. li Y Y P � Contractor's bonds were approved for Lafayette Macumber & Sons, Inc., Peter Schumacher and Sons, Donald M., Marshall, and Herbert A. Dale, and From Building Company. The Clerk of the Board is hereby authorized to advertise for a sweeper for the Street Department. The bid for the Street Department is now awarded to the following company: DEEDS EQUIPMENT COMPANY A non -collusion affidavit and a bidder's bond 913-915 Main Street in the amount of $500.00 accompanied the bid. • Rochester, Indiana •. Two (2) Undertruck Graders as per your specifications Total bid price ------------------------------------- $3970.00 Mr. John Graybarz appeared before the Board requesting permission to conduct the annual Armed Forces Day parade on May 18, 1957. Permission granted subject to clearing with the Police and Traffic Departments. The Board has received information from the State Highway Commission in Laporte, Indiana through the Distri Engineerthat State Route 123 from Western Avenue south to 23 and further Route #23 northeasterly into the City limits or particularly the route of #23 and Olive Street are being made available on a temporary per mit basis for all common carriers to be used for the duration of the emergency caused by reconstruction of Sample Street in the City of South Bend, Indiana The following Resolution with reference to the truck route to be used during the Sample Street reconstruct is now adopted by the Board this 29th day of April, 1957. RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND WHEREAS, Niue to reconstruction of Sample Street in the City of South Bend; and, WHEREAS, trucks are a big user of said street; and, 532 WHEREAS, it has been necessary for said trucks to use other streets; and, WHEREAS, many streets in the City of South Bend are incapable of withstanding the constant use of said trucks; and, WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Board of Public Works and SAFETY to see that traffic is expedited and fur ther to safeguard pedestrians; and, WHEREAS, the condition so exists that an emergency has been created; and, WHEREAS, under Section 11 of Chapter 29 of the General Ordinance of the City of South Bend, Number 3709 a- dopted the 12th day of July, 1969, the Traffic Bureas is authorized to expedite traffic as conditions may require in an emergency, IT IS THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Traffic Bureau set up the following route for inter -city trucks during the time said emergency exists: All east -bound trucks formerly using West Sample Street between Mayflower Road and Olive Street to approach their terminals, shall now enter the City of South Bend at the intersections of South Olive Street and West Ewing Street. All west -bound trucks formerly using West Sample Street between Mayflower Road and Olive Street to leave the City of South Bend, shall now depart from the City at the intersections of South Olive Street and West Ewing Street. Nothing herein contained shall prevent these trucks from using scheduled routes as presently filed with Clerk of the City of South Bend, Indiana. That further said emergency route will be used commencing on the 1st day of May, 1957 at 11:59 P.M. until further carder. Adopted this 29th day of April, 1957. Frank J. Bruggner Raymond S.
