Sabo; Clerk PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS ADOPTED BE IT RESOLVED, By the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana that the Profiles, Drawings, Plans, General Details, Specifications and Estimates approved by the Board on the 18th day of February, 1957, for the improvement of Campeau Street from 185 feet west of Jacob Street bo Jacob Street by„ constructing a local sewer be and the same are hereby adopted and ordered placed on file in the office of the Department of Public Works and Safety. March 18, 1957, at the hour of 10:00 A.M. (CST) is hereby fixed as the time and the office of the Board of'" Public Works and Safety in the City Hall of this City, as the place, when and where the Board of Public Works and Safety will open and consider bids for the above named improvements, provided all bids fthe I or construction of said work shall be filed in the office of thI e Clerk of this Board before 10:00 A.M. of said day. Each bidder for said work shall enclose with his bid a certified check, payable to the Treas urer of this City in the sum of two and one-half (22) per cent of the amount of his bid, or a bid bond for j two and one-half (22) per cent of the amount of his bid, to insure the execution of this contract, if said' work is awarded to him. The Clerk of this Board is hereby ordered, to give notice by two (2) weekly publications of the time and 4 ;place, when and where bids will be received, opened and considered for the construction of said work. Said, Clerk shall state in said notices, that each bidder shall enclose with his bid a certified check or bid bond ;for above named amount, to insure the execution of this contract. R. S. White, Inc. 32.35 An agreement was received and placed on file with reference to the City of South Bend, Indiana by and throught its Board of Public Works and Safety and Portage Township for fire protection for said Township to be furnished by said City. Approved this llth day of March, 1957. Excavation bonds are hereby approved for Colpaert Realty Corporation for the sum of $10,000.00 A representative of the Disabled American Veterans appeared before the Board and requested permission to conduct their annual forget-me-not drive on May 24 and May 259 1957. Permission granted. A-reparesentative of the Lion's Club appeared before the Board requesting permission to conduct their ann "White CAne" sale on the 27th day of April, 1957. Permission granted. Traffic Signs were installed at the following locations: "12 Min Pkg. Limit at this Meter" signs installed on meters (3), north of City Hall Court on east side of Main Street - directly in front of Water Works Building. 1112 Min. Pkg. Limit at this Meter" signs installed on first 3 meters east of Lafayette Blvd. on south side of W. Colfax Street. "12 Min. Pkg. Limit at this Meter" signs installed on first 3 meters south of Wayne Street on west side of South Main Street. Stop sign installed on Rupel Street at Wilbur, southeast corner. Stop sign installed on Rupel Street, both sides, at College Street. In regards to a letter received from Judge Olczak with reference to the use of "unmarked cars" by the Police Department in the performance of its duties, reports were submitted to the Board from the Police Chief with reference to same. Placed on file. An agreement was received and approved this llth day of March, 1957 with reference to the transferring of the Dog Pound facilities to the South Bend Humane Society jurisdiction on Grape Road. Agreement approved' and signed by the Board. Placed on file in the Office of the Board of Public Works and Safety. The matter of the petitions of several residents on Fox Street and Hoke Street and also on Essex Drive in' McKinley Terrace whereby they protest for a rerouting of the busses in their respective residential areas; is hereby continued until next Monday, March 18, 1957. Mr. George Weiler and Mr. Ed Lapham appeared before the Board with reference to petition and request the City of South Bend to provide Police traffic safety protection for their school children at the junction of South Street, Twyckenham Drive and Longfellow Avenue during the periods of the day when the children are going to and from Jefferson School. Matter hereby referred to the Police Department and also the Traffic Engineering Department for investigation and repprt. Webster Heating Company requests permission in install a canopy on the alley side of the National Bank & Trust Company. Upon recommendation of the Building Commissioner, the Company is hereby permitted to pro-- ceed with the installation subject to meeting the requirements of the City Building Code. Studebaker Packard requests permission for the relocation of their present fence on North Cotter Street bact to the curb line. Permission granted subject to submitting to the Board an agreement with reference to same. A petition is hereby submitted to the Board from Hartman Brothers, Inc. asking for the vacation of Locke Street. Petition referred to the City Planning Commission for investigation and recommendation. • • • • 5rob 5 • • • • U 1 11A letter was received from Chas. W. Cole & Son requesting permission to trim all the trees whose branches extend over Sample Street between the estreme limits of the above mentioned (Sample Street Contract No. 3) 1 j'contract. Permission granted. The Clerk of the Board is hereby authorized to advertise for a snow loader and snow thrower for the Street 1 Department . jThe time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and the bids for the Parking Meter Department, Dog `Pound Department, Sewer Department, and Sanitation Department were opened and read. Proofs of publication were submitted to the Board with an affidavit from the South Bend Tribune signed by C. G. Livengood and ;'from the Record with an affidavit signed by W. DeCanio. SABO, CLERK BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2849, 1957 his being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment roll showing the award of damages and the assesi.- ent of benefits in the matter of the vacation of BELLEVILLE CENTER STREET, FROM THE NORTH LINE OF WESTERN !� VENUE TO THE SOUTH LINE OF WASHINGTON STREET, under Resolution No. 2849, 1957. In the above named assessment Roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances were filed. Them Clekk of the Board submitted proofs of publication of notices and same were found sufficient, and the Board' therefore finds that the street has been benefited and damaged in the amounts hsown on said roll. The Boar , therefore decides to take final action on said assessment roll and declares same in all things ratified, con- firmed, and approved without modification and the preoecdings closed, and the street vacated upon rec6ipt li' the amount of benefit assessments from the various property owners so benefited and all proceedings had wi reference to said vacation are hereby sustained.
