Lane, for the month of September, 1956 was accepted and placed on file. Contractor's bonds were approved for Alexander Batcho. Permission is granted to Robertson's Department Store to sponsor a march of A Scottish Bagpipe Or-` chestra going south on the west side walk of Michigan Street from LaSalle Street to the front of Robertsonls store on Thursday, October 18, 1956 at 6 P.M. Permission is further granted that the orchestra play sever�l numbers in front of the store. Robertson's is hereby requested to indemnify the City of South Bend, India�a for any property damage or personal injury which may occur. The Traffic Department and the Police Depart-' will be notifyed of said march. All bids submitted to the Board before 10:00 A.M. (DST) on the 8th day of October, 1956 will be taken under advisement and reading of said bids will occur on the 15th day of October, 1956. Any or all matters heretofore set for the 8th day of October, 1956 will be continued until Monday,, October 15, 1956. City Hall will be closed on the 12th day of October which has been designated by the General Ass of Indiana as a legal holiday. (DST).There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 3:30 P.M. s� ATTEST:,- Anthony J. a , C1 k September 25, 1956 A special meeting of the Board of Public Works & Safety was held on Tuesday, September 25, 1956 at 2:00 P.M. (DST). Mayor Voorde and all members of the Board were present. The purpose of the meeting was to open bids received for the $1,000,000.00 Street Improvement Bonds. Proof of publication in the South Bend Tribune with an affidavit signed by C. G. Livengood and in The Record with an affidavit signed by W. DeCani6 was submitted to the Board and found sufficient. Both publications appearing on the 7th and 14th days of September, 1956. The following bids were received and read as follows: INTEREST RATE PREMIUM Harriman Ripley & Company Chicago ) 22% $1980.00 Mercantile Trutt Company St. Louis ) Harrison & Austing, Inc. South Bend) First Boston Company Chicago 22/ $1049.00 Chase Manhattan Company New York 2'% $ 809.00 Soloman Bros. & Hutzler New York 22 $ 410.00 Harris Trust & Savings Bank Chicago ) Northern Trust Company Chicago ) 22,6 $ 339.33 Albert McGann Securities Company South Bend) Continental Illinois National Bank & Trust Company Chicago 2 5/8% $ 300.00 Halsey, Stuart & Company Chicago 2 3/4% $2940.00 The abovenamed bids were taken under advisement by the Board and after due consideration the contract is hereby awarded to Harriman Ripley & Company, Chicago; Mercantile Trust Company, St. Louis; and Harris & Austin,_.Inc., South Bend at the interest rate of 22� and a Premium of $i980.00.
