A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, October 1, 1956 at 10:00 A.M. (DST)
All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Claims of the
following suppliers in the total amount of $22$80.74 were approved and ordered paid:

Plans were approved by the Board this 1st day of October, 1956 for a Storm Relief Sewer in Kenmore
Street and Prast Boulevard of the Brentwood Estates.
The Sewer Improvement Contracts in Oakcrest Drive and Sylvan Glen for the City of South Bend, Indiana
under Improvement Resolution No. 28432 1956 were approved by the Board this 1st day of October, 1956.
Comes now Irving Hurwich, Attorney of the Armour and Company, and requests permission that the hear-
ing on Vacation Resolution No. 2845 be continued for one week until October 81 1956. Permission granted.
Excavation bonds were approved for John B. Hendricks.
Contractor's bonds were approved for Harold E. Anson, L. Wells & Company, and Forest Guise.
In reference to Council meeting, several requests of Councilmen were submitted to the Board. Said re
quests are hereby referred to Traffic Engineer, Ernest H. Miller, for investigation and a report will be
made back to the Board on Monday, October 8, 1956.
A letter was received from the South Bend Parking Company of the following change in their price scheo-
ule on Lot number 21, 121 East Washington Street: 35� one hour or less, 10� each additional hour, 50Q all
day, 50� flat rate after 5:30 P.M., and Sundays and Holidays. Accepted and placed on file.
Referring to the bids of the Indiana Avenue Street improvement, Contracts No. 1. and 2, all bids re-
ceived were rejected. The bid of the Mcintyre & Jones Company was rejected because no completion date was
designated on the bid, and the bids of Rieth-Riley Construction Company and Reed Construction Company were
.;extremely over the Engineer's estimate.
The time now being 10:00 A.M. (DST) the bids for the Sewer Improvement in
were opened. Proof of publication in the South Bend Tribune with an affidavit signed by C. G. Livengood
.and in the Record with an affidavit signed by W.,DeCanio were submitted to the Board and found sufficient.
;;The single bid received reads as follows:
REED CONSTRUCTION COMPANY A non -collusion affidavit, Form 96-a, and
2022 North Main Street a certified check in the amount of $415.00
Mishawaka% Indiana accompanied the bid.

FINAL CONFIRMATION OF IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION
I
For the improvement of South Lake Street from the North line of Jefferson Blvd. to the South line of A
Washington Street by constructing a Class "C" pavement (types 1 to 4) under Improvement Resolution No. 2846,,
19569 adopted August 27, 1956 and first confirmed on September 17, 1956.
No written remonstrance or remonstrances against said improvement bearing the signatures of fifty-one;
(51%) per cent or more of the resident property owners on said street to be improved, having been filed within
;the ten (10) day period following the date andtime of the hearing on said improvement, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that Im-
provement Resolution No. 2846, 1956, duly adopted by this Board on August 27, 19569 and first confirmed on
September 17, 1956, be and the same is in all things finally confirmed and the improvement is hereby ordered';
made.

a BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, that the
�rofiles, Drawings, Plans General Details, Specifications and Estimates approved by this Board on the 27th
day of August, 1956, for the improvement of South Lake Street from the North line of Jefferson Boulevard to
the South line of Washington Street by constructing a Class "C " pavement, Types 1 to 4 be and the same are
hereby adopted and ordered placed on file in the office of the Department of Public Worksand Safety.
October 15, 1956, at the hour of 9:00 A.M. (CST) is hereby fixed as the time and the office of the Board
Pf Public Works and Safety in the City Hall of this City, as the Place, when and where the Board of Public
Norks and Safety will open and consider bids for the above named improvements, provided all bids for the
construction of said work shall be filed in the Office of the Clerk of this Board before 9:00 A.M. (CST) of
paid day. Each bidder for said work shall enclose with his bid a certified check, cashier's check in the
.5um of five (5%) per cent of the amount of his bid, to insure the execution of this contract, if said work
Ls awarded to him.
The Clerk of this Board is hereby ordered to give notice by two (2) weekly publications of the time
and place, when and where bids will be received, opened and considered for the construction of said work.

In the matter of the Bids for the Improvement of Meade Street from Elwood Avenue to Bulla Street by
onstructing a local combined sewer in accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2834, 1956 and confirmed
y this Board on September 41 19569 we hereby report that we have examined the several Bids submitted to the
oard on September 17, 1956, and find that the Reed Construction Company, Inc. 2022 North Main Street, Misha-
aka, Indiana has the lowest and best bid for the construction of the improvement and therefore, we recommenc
hat the contract be awarded to the Reed Construction Company, 2022 North Main Street, Mishawaka, Indiana.

the Board on September 24, 1956, and find that the Reed Construction Company, Inc, Mishawaka, Indiana has
the lowest and best bid for construction of the improvement and that we recommend that the contract be a-
warded to the Reed Construction Company, Inc. Mishawaka, Indiana.
