MAY 21, 1956
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works & Safety was held Monday, May 21, 1956 at 10:00
A.M. (DST). Mr. Raymond S. Andrysiak was absent. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and
approved. Claims in the total amount of $6762.65 were approved and ordered paid for the following suppli-

The hearing of the assessment roll for Improvement Resolution No. 28159 Victory Avenue -Delano
Avenue will be continued till next Monday, May 289 1956.
Contractor's bonds were approved for M. E. Walters, Contat Lumber, Inc., D. Paul Rousculp, and
R. M. Rathwick.
Excavation bonds were approved for Burton Plumbing & Heating Company, Inc.
Yield Right of Way signs were installed on Chimes Boulevard, both sides, at MacArthur Street.
Stop signs were installed at the following locations:
Marine Street, both sides, at Eckman Street
Huey Street, both sides, at Roger Street
Kentucky Street, both sides, At Jefferson Street.
A letter was submitted to the Board by Thomas Miller, Captain of the Civil Air Patrol, request
ing permission to have a "tag day" on the downtown streets on Saturday, June 16th from the hours of 10:00
A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Permission granted.
A letter was submitted to the Board by Verner L. Lane, Building Commissioner. Accepted and
placed on file.
A petition was received from Mr. Hungate and others for the re -surfacing of Esther Street from
Jefferson Street to Bader Street. Petition referred to the Street Department.
The Declaration of Plat of Swanson's replat of Lots Numbered One -hundred forty-six (146) throu
Lot One -hundred sixty (160) both inclusive, as shown on the recorded plat of North Shore Terrace Addition
to the City of South Bend, together with the vacated alley lying between lots One -hundred forty-nine and
One -hundred fifty in said addition was accepted and approved by the Board.
The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to advertise for Five Desk Type Base Stations to be
purchased by the Civil Defense Department.
Mr. Metalloof the Ward Baking Company app@#red before the Board with reference to request per-
mission for said company to hold a motor parade on Wednesday, June 27, 1956. Permission granted subject
to working out arrangements with the Police and Traffic Departments.

Ernest H. Miller, Traffic Engineer, appeared before the Board with reference to request permission
to attend the National Safety Conference to be held in Chicago on the 23rd and 24th days of May, 1956. Perk
;mission granted.
Ideal Baldoni appeared before the Board with reference to the repairing of Fellow Street between
Altgeld and Woodside Streets.
1 Mr. Fred Hotop of White and Company to change the date of the installation of the cooler on the
I'Associates Building from Mondayf May 21 until the date of the arrival of said cooler. Time limitation to
remain the same from 7:30 A.M. till 5:00 P.M. Permission granted subject to notifying the Fire and Police
,Department.
The time now being 10:30 A.M. (DST) it was so announced and the bids for the Olive Street improve
ment from Western Avenue to Washington Street were opened. Proof of publication in the South Bend Tribune
signed with an affidavit by C. G. Livengood and the Record with an affidavit signed by W. DeCanio on the
llth day of May and on the 18th day of May, 1956 was submitted to the Board. The bids read as follows:

VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2828
With reference to the above named Vacation assessment roll which was previously filed with the
Board by R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in the City Hall at
10:00 A.M. (DST) on the 18th day of June, 1956 for the purpose of hearing and receiving remonstrances
from all persons interested in or affected by said vacation and the Board further orders that notice of
said hearing, together with the amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the prop-
erty owners by publishing same on the 25th day of May, 1st day of June, and the 8th day of June, 1956 in
the South Bend Tribune and The Record.
