Morris appeared before the Board of Public Works & Safety and pre- senting evidence in support of his application for a taxi -cab license. Chief Dutrieux having appeared and submitted evidence -of police records of.Mr. Morrist convictions in the City of South Bend as well as accidents and requested that his application be deniedi The Board having heard evidence now finds that a taxi -cab license shall not be issued to:I said George W. Morris. Application denied. Verner L. Lane, Building Commissioner, appeared before the Board with reference to defective sidewalk in the vicinity of 110 to 114 West Colfax Avenue. Matter submitted to City Engineer and the City Engineer will contact property owners. Consoer- Townsend & Associates submitted contract supplement No. 24 supplement to Sollitt Construction Company general contract for the painting of all insulated piping at the Sewage Treatment Plant. Contract approved and ordered filed. The Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War requested permission to sell flowers on the city streets. Permission granted and the date set for April 212 1956. The following stop signs were installed: !; Carroll Street, both sides, at Donald St. McPherson Street, northwest corner, Indiana Avenue. A Contractor's Bond in the su m of $1000 was approved for Paul I. Cohen and Harold Ranking d/b/a Modern -Heating and Air Conditioning Company, 613 E. Madison Street, South Bend, Indiana. A petition was received for the installation of a street light between 312 South'; Kentucky Street and Dundee Street. Referred to the Electrical Department. An application was received from A. H. Gardner, Contractor, for permission to occupy public property at 214 S. Michigan Street during the construction of building for; Wormser Hat Company. Application approved. The following Vacation Resolution No. 2825 was approved by the Board and the Clerk of the Board was ordered to advertise: VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2825 RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: That it is desirable to vacate the following; The alley beginning at the Northwest corner of Lot No. 10 in the recorded plat of Lincoln Plaza -Addition, thence East Two Hundred -fifty feet along the north line of Lots numbered 10 and 11 in Lincoln Plaza Addition to the Northeast corner of Lot No. 11, thence north fourteen feet to a point at the Southeast corner of Lot No. 14 in the record- ed plat of Chicago Plaza Addition, thence West Two Hundred -fifty feet along the South line of Lots numbered 14 and 22 in Chicago Plaza Addition to a point at the Southwest corner of Lot No. 22, thence South fourteen feet to the point of beginning; said alley extend-' ing from Sheridan Avenue- East _to Chicago Street. Hollyhock, South Bend, Indiana appeared before the Board with reference to a taxi -cab license and requesting permission to be able to pick up passengers in South Bend and deliver to Roseland. The.Board hereby grants permission to said Lloyd James Clark to pick up passengers in South Bend and return only; to Roseland and not within the limits of the City of South Bend. The time now being 11:00, it was so announced and the bids for the Street Department were opened: Proof of publication in the South Bend Tribune on the 20th and 27th of January, 1956 was submitted to the Board with an affidavit signed by C. The 12th of February, 1956 according to the Statutes of Indiana is a legal holi- day and this year falls on a Sunday. Legally it will be observed on the following day and therefore, the City Hall and its componets will be closed on Monday, February 13, 1956.
