Present were Nicholas Cholis, Attorney I for Northern Indiana Transit, Inc, and John T. Martin, President, and Par ron Anderson, • representing Northern Indiana Transit., -Inc. Mr. Cholis presented proof of publication of notice from the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News, and also an affidavit of posting of notices in 13 public places in the City of South Bend, Indiana. The original,, petition was dated December 7th, 1955• Comes now Carl Findlay, 1031 Georgiana Avenue, to protest against an increase it I rates as petitioned for. He stated that he is a constant rider of t1.e busses and the increase in rates would be in effect a 20% increase for him. William R. Dennis Powers, representing 1956 Mardi Gras Carnival at Notre Dame asks per- mission for spot to display new Buick. Referred to Chief of Police. Board recognizes Dan Richardson, Street Commissioner. Richardson asks to ad- vertise for 1500 tons of rock salt. They now have 80 ton on hand. Board suggests to advertise for 1000 tons or less. Advertising to be held off until January 30, 1956. i i Clerk of Board directed to advertise for 5002000 gallons or less of liquid bi- tuminous asphalt. Ap}3roved. Board approved bids to purchase desk, chair, lamp at price of $259.87 net for Street Department. I' The Clerk of the Board was ordered to advertise for new chassis for Studebaker 1I. Matter referred to Ernest Miller to make a study of sit nation. Bob Huff, City Plan Commission, received 60% of advertised contract. Application approved to occupy alley. Ten foot set back line on West Side Eddy Street between South Bend Avenue to Angela Boulevard providing to regulate the building of any new structures in that area. Ap- pointment of F. Ron Henricken as delegated representative to City Planning Commission. Clerk of Board authorized to advertise for bids on lift station. A stop sign to be installed on th Southwest corner of Humboldt and Wilbur. A stop sign to be installed on Humboldt, both sides, at Adams Street. A stop sign to be installed on Caroline Street, both sides, at Calvert Street. A stop sign to be installed on Caroline Street, both sides, at Dayton Street. Van Goey et al 3431 South Main Street, for elimination of auto body dump established by J. E. Walz, Inc. from South Main Street to Sherwood Street. Referred to Planning Commission. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourn- ed at 11:00 A. M. Attest: Clerk R JANUARY 1:7, 1956 At a special meeting of the Board of Public Works which was held on Tuesday, January 17, 1956, at 10.30 A.M., all members were present. Also in attendance were the members of the Board of Public Works of the City of Mishawaka, Indiana. A petition having been filed by Northern Indiana Transit, Inc., which sets forth a request for change of fares and a showing having beenmade by said Company that the fares permitted to be -charged for bus transportation under a contract made with the City ..Of South Bend, Indiana on or about the 13th day of May, 1940, and amended by a contract dated February 13, 1948, and as further amended by:_: contract dated March 10, 1952, and as further amended by a contract dated January 26, 1953, and a request having been made ';by said Company that it be permitted to charge rates for services rendered to the public ,which will be fair and reasonable to all parties concerned , and the statutes of Indiana (Seca 48-7303, Burns Indiana Statutes, 1950 Repl.) requiring the amendment of said con- tract to be undertaken in the manner herein followed, this Board now takes the follow- i'ing action:
