Special Meeting
July 20, 1955
A special meeting of the Board of Public Works was held at 10:30 A. M. Wednesday,
July 20, 1955, for the purpose of considering Contract Supplement comprising paving
of Riverside Drive between Lathrop Avenue and the Sewage Treatment Plant Site. All
nembers were present.
After careful examination,

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, July 25, 1955, at
10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting and
also special meeting were read and approvwd. Salary claims in the total amount of
26,180.97 were approved. Claims of the following suppliers, in the total amount of
$18,649.77, were approved and ordered paid:

First appeared before the Board Messrs. R. W. Whitesell and W. A. Gebhardt, repre-
senting Bendix Aviation Corporation in the matter of reduction of noise created by their
jet engine testing operations. Attorney Whitesell assured the Board of Bendix being
fully cognizant of the problem, and stated a sound engineer will arrive at their plant
Thursday of this week to make further study of the possibilities of reducing the excessive
noise connected with these engineering operations. Engineer Gebhardt presented to the
Board figures compiled from the actual test reports, which refuted verbal report made
to the Board at the previous regular meeting meeting, and proved these engines are
operated in testing a very limited number of hours over a period of a month, and a total
of less than seven hours in a month "at take -off", which is that portion of the test
which creates the excessive noise and vibrations -of which the Board received verbal
complaint.
The Board asked that Bendix furnish a report of the findings, following study made
by the sound engineer, to provide such satisfaction as may be possible to the residents
of the area adjacent to the plantts testing cells.
