Agenda: Meeting called to Order at 6:32 p.m. Rebecca
Kaiser reports Dog Days of Summer very successful. Silent auction with Bendix
Coffee and Linda’s Kamp Kanine contributing. Hearings scheduled to follow
meeting continued due to notice issues. Ms. Steele indicated additional hearing
requests will be coming so City is ready to reset the hearings. Hearings reset to
September 21, 2017 at 6:00 pm. Tentatively plan on two (2) hearings for October 5,
2017 at 6:00 p.m. Add agenda item of shelter updates. Minutes from last meeting of
August, 2017 meeting reviewed. Rebecca Kaiser moves to accept minutes for
August, 2017. Dr. Culp seconds and passed unanimously 4-0.
Jen Gobel reports intake lower compared to last year. 252 intakes in 2016 v. 203 in
August 2017. Rescues 36.5% in 2017 v. 25.8% in 2016 Cat adoptions of 9.9%% in
2016 v. 18.2% in 2017. Return to Owner: 11.1% in 2016 v. 9.6% in 2017.
Euthanasia: 112 in 2016 v. 66 in 2017. Trend continuing in lowering euthanasia
rate. Self goal is 90% live release rate. Currently at about 70%.
Ernest Galos asked about permanent veterinarian being hired. Ms. Gobel indicated
still working on that. They are within budget on veterinarian services but over on
vaccinations. Ms. Gobel does not know status of pre-paid services contracted for
with Kryder. Ernest Galos inquired if any animals had been sent to veterinarian
under investigation. Ms. Gobel indicated they had contacted that clinic because of
dire need of spay/neuter but no discounts were offered so no animals were sent
there. Ms. Kaiser indicated that Valerie Schey and Matt stopped sending animals to
Family Clinic of Granger in May, 2016 due to outcomes of emergency care.
The next meeting date shall be October 5, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. Ms. Kaiser moved for
adjournment, Ms. Leavell seconded and the motion carried 4-0. The meeting
adjourned at 6:54 p.m.
