All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Salary claims in the total amount of $37,000.56, were approved. The Board next re-examined bids received for the painting of the Street Depart- ment buildings and awarded contract to Jay W. DeLee in the total sum of $1847.04. The Clerk was directed to issue purchase order to encumber funds accordingly. The Board proceeded next with a review of truck bids opened at the previous regular meeting and awarded contracts as follows: L. 0. Gates - 3 Pick -Up Trucks International Harvester Co. - 2 - 2-1/2 Ton Trucks 3 - 1 Ton Trucks TRAFFIC DEPARTDENT: Attorney Orie Parker appeared before the Board and presented a parking problern at the intersection of Indiana and I:Tiami Streets, which is causing serious loss of business to the merchants located at that corner. Traffic Engineer, E. H. filler, being present, discussed the problem with Attorney Parker in considerable detail. City Attorney, I. A. Hurwich pointed out, in this matter, the movement of traffic is of :first consideration. Attorney Parker was given assurance the problem would be given an on -the spot check by the Traffic Engineer, in an endeavor to remedy the situation, if any way is found possible. The Board will be rendered a report of his findings and Attorney Parker will be informed accordingly. The Board received and examined a drawing of Survey of -Proposed Extension to Sewage Treatment Plant Site, prepared by Engineer W. S. Moore, and bearing date of December 1, 1954- The Board next gave consideration to the parking of automobiles in the 600 block South Walnut Street, and issued the following directive: I The 600 block of South Walnut Street, between the railroad and Ford.Street is to be posted for "NO PARKING on the West Side of Street. I j The Board then took up the matter of Contract Supplement Nos. 3 and 4, Contract lNo• 45-55-6, Santucci Construction Company, contractor, and having had the recommendation! of the consulting engineers, Consoer, Townsend L Associates, the Board proceeded to grant' ;approval of these specific supplements as submitted. j i VACATION RESOLUTION 1-?O. 2805 - 1954 This being the date set, hearing was had on -the resolution heretofore adopted ;by the Board of Public Works and Safety for the vacation of THE ALLEY SOUTH OF BROADWAY from LaFayette Boulevard southwesterly and west'to-Franklin Street, under Vacation Resolution No. 2805. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publi- E' ;cation and no remonstrators having appeared and no Written remonstrances having been 'filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said ,resolution be finally adopted and the said alley be vacated. The Engineering Department Is directed to prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of benefits and the l 'award of damages to the surrounding properties: R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment -roll showing the awards of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of THE ALLEY SOUTH OF BROADWAY from Lafayette Boulevard southw-esterly and west to Franklin Street, under Vacation Resolution No. 2805. In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in. the City Hall at 10:00 A. M. CST. on the 17th day of January, 1955, for the purpose of hearing and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in -or affected by said vacation, and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by publishing same on the-24th day of December, on the 31st day of December, 1954 and on the 7th day of January, 1955 in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News. VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2806 - 1954 • 171 • 217 • 0 1�1 • 0 • VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 28o6 - 1954 This.being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by the Board of Public Works for the 'vacation of THE ALLEY NORTH OF SAMPLE STREET from Carroll Street one hundred thirty-five and eight tenths feet, east to fourteen feet west of lot number six in Anderson's Subdivision, under Vacation Resolution No. 2-806. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally adopted and the said alley be vacated. ON, under Vacations In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in tle City Hall at 10:00 A. M. CST. on the 17th day of January, 1955, for the purpose of hearing and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said vacation, and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by publishing same on the,24th day of December, on the 31st day of December, 1954, and on the 7th day of January, 1955 in the South Bend Tribune and Tri-County News. The Board then reviewed the bids for the repair of the Ironwood Bridge and con- curring in the recommendation made in the tabulation, submitted by Engineer, W. S. Moore, awarded contract to Charles Aulm, covering Alternate No. 1, in the sum of $15,662.00. The Board further directed the Clerk to issue purchase order to Charles Aulm for asphaltic binder and asphaltic surfacer, at the bid price of �,"$12.75 and $12.25 per ton respectively, in the total sum of $2338.00. The Board next examined the complaint of W. L. Mapel, 2003 Berkeley Place, con- cerning damage done to his automobile by having hit a section of displaced curbing. In the opinion of the Board, I,Ir. Mapel must look to the property owner for any recourse in the matter of damages in this incident. The Board approved the installation of S-T-O-P signs on Arthur Street (both sides) at the intersection with Sorin. Excavation Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, were examined and approved for the following contractors: 0. J. Shoemaker Tony Szymkowiak United Heating & Plumbing Co.
