Mr: Andrysiak was absent. Minutes of the previous meeting and also the special meeting of December 6th, were read and approved. Crothers 2.35 $11,118.75 The Gibson Co. 15.76 54.00 Healy Sign Co. 22.50 1.15 First appeared before the Board, Mr. William Morris with a repetition of his complaint concerning the routing of trash -hauling to the City►s new landfill as indi- cated by the information given by the press. Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, being present, stated he had made several personal inspections in the matter and in no instance had he seen any trash-hauler's trucks on Corby Boulevard. Some further discussion ensued, indicating definitely that the controversy is entirely between Mr. Morris and the newspaper publisher, and the Board could, therefore, give it no further attention. Next appeared before the Board, Mr. Clifton Davis of 110 S. Wellington Street, reporting the condition of the street in this block causes repeated damage to his automobile. Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, being present, informed the Board ;.that this section of street is extremely.difficult to maintain due to its being higher than the sidewalks and adjoining lots,'and accordingly, it is not feasible to put any ;more gravel on it. The Commissioner stated that the street is graded at intervals and !!maintained by his department in the best condition possible to maintain dirt streets in this muck soil area. Mr. Davis insisted "the street could be kept up better than it has been keptup". Commissioner Tomlinson then suggested that inasmuch as this area is under the Federal Housing Authority, Mr. Davis and others in the block, should ;;petition that authority for street improvement, and also advised Mr. Davis this street "would again be leveled up, as soon as the department can get to it." Mr. Davis then presented to the chairman of the Board, a bill for a current repair job on his automobile, which he claimed was due to the condition of the street. The Board !:rejected the bill and informed Mr. Davis payment of such a claim could not be entertained;. The Board next considered quotations received for the wall washing and painting, I and the carpenter work involved in the rearrangement of the office of the Building +Commissioner. The Board awarded the wall -washing and painting to the Morrical Painting ;and Decorating Corporation, and the carpenter work to Charles Aulm Contractor, as having+ "submitted the lowest and best bids. VACATION RESOLUTION No. 2804 - 1954 This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by the Board of Public Works and Safety for the vacation of the fourteen foot alley immediately east of and adjacent to lot No. 225 in the 3rd plat of Northwest Addition, from the south line of Rose Street to the first East and West alley south of Rose Street' and seven foot alley immediately south of and adjacent to Lot. No. 225 in the 3rd Plat of Northwest Addition, from the East line of Cushing Street, east two hundred fifty-four feet, subject to easements for public utilities, under Vacation Resolution No. 2804- The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators': having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was ,.moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally adopted and the said alleys be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assess l; ment roll covering the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the surround- ing properties. i' VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2804 - 1954 R. In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in the City Hall at 10:00 A. M. CST! on the 10th day of January, 1955 for the purpose of „fearing and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by slid uacation, and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the ;;amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by j ;;publishing same on the 17th day of December, on the 24th day of December and on the 31st i ;day of December, 1954, in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News. All members were present. j After examining the committeets report, and funds being available for this purpose in the 1954 budget of the Health Department, the Board accepted the committeets recommen " 3dation and awarded contract to. Remington -Rand, Inc., in the total sum of $4309.00. The ;Board directed the issuance of a Health Department purchase order in that amount.
