Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Searer 102.66 The Board was first presented with a drawing and request for approval of an awning type entrance canopy to be installed by the Shrine Club, 107 Lincoln Way East. Approval was granted. The Board next examined and approved store front plans involving a canopy extending out over public property not to exceed one foot, for the -Henry Eckler Lumber and Manu- facturing Company, 1406 Franklin Street. STREET DEPARTMENT H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, described to the Board the night -long activities of his department in the vicinity of Clyde Street and_ Twyckenham Drive, throughout the preceding night, due to the flooding of the area by Bowman Creek caused by the collection of debris clogging the stream at overflow capacity in that section of the City. The Street Commissioner also brought to the Board's attention damage done to the Street in the 1500 block, North Huey by the trench digging operations of the Water Works.' The Commissioner was assured by the Board the matter would be taken up at the ensuing meeting of the Board of Water Commissioners and payment for oil required to restore the street to its previous status would be requested from the City Water Works. RESOLUTION ADOPTING FINAL ASSESSMENT ROLL RESOLUTION NO. 2779, 1954 After hearing all persons interested who appeared and the Clerk of the Board of Public Works and Safety having proofs of publication of the notices to property owners and the same having been found sufficient., therefore BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, j Indiana, that the Primary or Preliminary Assessment Roll adopted by the Board on the 27th day of September, 1954, for the improvement of GERTRUDE STREET by constructing a I local sewer be and the same is in all things confirmed. A petition, bearing the da of April 26, 1954, to vacate first alley south of Broadway, running east and west between Franklin and LaFayette streets, was examined and referred to the City Planning Commission. 246 Three letters received by the Department of Public Works and Safety from Sobenite, Incorporated, Roach -Appleton Manufacturing Company, and Lewneco Theatre Corporation, respectively, all pertaining to sewage service charges, were examined and referred to Mr. R. E. Grant, City Water Works. Certificate of Insurance issued by Employers Mutual Liability Insurance Company of Wisconsin, at River Forest, Illinois, under date of September 301 1954 for Paschen Contractors, Incorporated, and Paschen Bros. Construction Company, 2739 Elston Avenue, Chicago, Illinois , was examined and ordered filed with all papers pertaining to Inter- ceptor Sewer Contracts 5-A and 5-B. TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT The request of Traffic Engineer E. H. Miller for an additional week in which to survey and report upon the taxi -stand situation, was granted by the Board. The Board approved the installation of STOP signs at the following locations: Marine Street (both sides) at Ewing Avenue N. W, corner of Marine Street at Fairview The Board approved the installation of Yield Right of Way Signs at the. following locations: S. E.'corner of marine Street at Fairview Indiana Avenue (both sides) at Vernon .street Contractorts Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, were examined and approved for the following four (4) contractors: Charles W. Aulm Charles V. Berta Louis A. Buda Midland Engineering Co. Inc. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 11:05 A.M. 1� Attest: 4d�"�41!f "ADDENDUM: VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2802 This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by the Board of Public Works and Safety for the vacation of the ALLEY SOUTH OF CALVERT STREET .from Swygart Street east to the west line of alley between Swygart and Webster Street, sunder Vacation Resolution No. 2802. The Clerk df the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally adopted and the said alley be vacated. The Engineering !Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the surrounding properties. R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the awards of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of alley south of ,Calvert Street from Swygart Street east to west line of alley between Swygart and Webster Street under Vacation Resolution No. 2802. In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in the ;City Hall at 11:00 A. M. on the 8th day of November, 1954 for the purpose of hearing and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said vacation, and the. Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount of damagesi awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to tie property owners by publishing same on .,the 15th day of October, on the 22nd_day of October and on the 29th day of October, 1954 in the South Bend Tribune and Tri-County News.. i i • 0 0
