A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, June 21, 1954,
at 10:00 A. M. Mr. I. A. Hurwich was absent. Minutes of the previous meeting were
read and approved. Salary claims, in the total amount of $33,250.75, were approved.

The Board first considered and approved Deed of Easement, providing right-of-way
for sewer facilities over and across the following described real estate:
Starting at the northwest corner of lot 73 in Jackson's
proposed Addition which corner is also the intersection
of the East line of Huey Street with the South line of
Lathrop Street, thence south twenty (20) feet, thence
east 642.25 feet to the west line of Johnson Street,
thence north 20 feet to the northeast corner of lot 26
in Jackson's proposed Addition which point is also the
intersection of the west line of Johnson Street with
the south line of Lathrop Street, thence west 642.25 feet
to the place of beginning; all in South Ben.d,St. Joseph County,
Indiana.

JEngineer, covering passageway for pedestrian traffic from St. Joseph Street to the
James Monroe School playground. The Board then directed the Clerk to have this Quit -

RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
�INDIANA: That it is desirable to vacate the following:
The passageway from the East Side of St. Joseph Street to the
west side of the James Monroe School playground, said passageway
lying between lots numbered 386 and 387 as shown on the plat of
Beverly Heights Tenth Addition.
The following property may be injuriously or beneficially affected by such
vacation:

Notice of this resolution shall be published on the 25th day of June and on the
2nd day of July 1954 in the South Bend Tribune and Tri-County News.

This Board, at its office in the City, Hall on the 12th day of July 1954, at
10:00 A. M. C.S.T. will hear and receive remonstrances from all persons interested in
or affected by these proceedings.

The Board then took under consideration copy of American Vitrified Products Co.
letter, dated June 5, 1954, regarding Contract P-6, addressed to Consoer, Townsend &
Associates, consulting engineers, and accepted the recommendation of City Engineer,
R. S. Adnrysiak, for type of joints for pipe under twenty-four inches in diameter, as
defined in Paragraph 7, Page KE3, under the general specifications of the contract.
A letter, dated June 7, 1954, over the signature of E. P. ?,-_itchell, Sollitt II
Construction Co„ Inc., addressed to Consoer, Townsend & A:ssociates, concerning coarse �� •
aggregate for concrete, was read and ordered filed. !
The Board also approved the letter of the consulting engineers, over the sig-
nature of Geo. 0. Consoer, replying to Sollitt Construction Companyts letter of June 7th
in this matter of the use only of Class "A" coarse aggregate.
VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2785 - 1954
j This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted !
by the Board of Public ;Works and Safety for the vacation of THE ALLEY WEST OF LAUREL
STREET, FROM THE SOUTH LINE OF THOMAS STREET, SOUTH, ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-FOUR AND
FIVE-TENTHS(134.5) feet.

vacation:

The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no
remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstances having been filed with the
Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be
finally adopted and the said alley be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed
to prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of benefits and the award of wr

FROM THE NORTH LINE OF THE FIRST ALLEY SOUTH OF WESTERN AVENUE, NORTH TO THE NEW YORK
CANTRAL RAILROAD RIGHT OF NAY, under Vacation Resolution No. 2786.

The Clerk_ of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remon-
strators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk,
it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally
adopted and the said alley be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to
prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of benefits and the award of damages
to the surrounding properties.
The Board next examined and approved canopy for store front, 110 Wrest Washington
Avenue, per drawing submitted by Roseland Construction Company.
The Board then took note of failure to obtain the removal of advertising signs
located on public property, in accord with the Board's action in -regular meeting of
April 19, 1954, and of the fact that the violator has since erected additional signs
in contempt of the Board's removal order. The Chairman of the Board, at this juncture
contacted the office of the violator, Belleville Lumber Company, by telephone and
the signs will be removed from public property by noon this date.
A letter from City Collection Service, 100 Sycamore Street, Anderson, Indiana,
d under date of June 10, 1954, was read by the Board and the Clerk directed to reply
that our present garbage removal method of operation is proceeding satisfactorily, and
directed that this correspondence be 'retainedon file.
Agreement to be entered into between the 1,111Unicipal City of South Bend and the St.
Joseph Bank and Trust Company, in the matter of the installation of a Civil Defense
siren, was next examined and approved by the Board.
The time now being 11 otclock as set by legal advertising for the opening of bids
to provide a station wagon for the Cnnstruction Inspector, Sewage Treatment Plant,
the Chairman of the Board so announced and proceeded, as follows:
