Wednesday, February 11, 1953• All members were present. The Board examined the two bids, to supply the Street Department with one 22 Ton Truck,received Monday, February 9th. Both bids were rejected, and the Clerk of the Board was directed to re -advertise for bids to be opened February 24, 1953• The meeting adjourned at 11:45 A. M. Mr. Moomaw contended that the rezoning of the area should be done after, instead of before, the vacating procedure has been completed. The topic was given some dis- cussion and it was the decision of the Board to rescind the action taken in this matter at the regular meeting of February 9, 10,53, and proceed upon the recommendations of Mr, hTo omaw . Next appeared before the Board, Mr. Donald Erick, representing the Screw Products Corporation. Mr. Erick placed before the Board a drawing of a new building this firm proposes to build, as an extension to the building which they have occupied for the U • 0 CJ U 0 565 ' `II past several �Tcrs. It is their desire to enter into an identical agreement with the City, as was made at the time their present quarters were built, to cover this new extension, inasmuch as this construction occupies the unused area of East Washington I Street extended, immediately on the east bank of the St. Joseph River. The Board was agreeable in the matter, and agreement is to be submitted for signatures at the next regular meeting of the Board. f` 1v1r. W. H. Tolle, Director of the Department of Public Welfare, next appeared before the Board, in regard to parking facilities for Welfare Department personnel, II immediately in the rear of their new quarters on East Washington Street. Objection has been raised that part of the property so used by the Welfare Department is private property. The Board informed Mr. Tolle it could take no action in the matter without the presentation of a formal petition. i A quotation received from W. J. Braunsdorf & Son, to install an electric water � heater in the City Hall was examined by the Board, found to be satisfactory and reason- able in cost, and the Clerk was thereupon directed to have this installation made witl,j.-,I� out further delay. A petition to improve by construction of sewers one-half block of South Ironwood A Drive, between East Eirving Avenue and East Altgeld Street, bearing three signatures, If • was referred to the City Engineer for investigation and report. The Board referred the petition to the City Plan Commission for their approval. The matter of the application for cab license of arshall Holycross was held in abeyance for consideration at the next regular meeting. I The Board next reviewed bids opened at the regular meeting on February 9th, and awarded contract to the Favorite Equipment Co., Oak Park, Illinois to provide the • Street Department with one 9,000T, s. 1 capacity hoisting unit and four three cubic yard bottom -dumping hopper Bids to supply 1953 Business Coupe for the use of the Board of Health were re- examined and continued under advisement. General Contractors, was next read and the Clerk directed to reply,informing this firm that the letting of bids will take place not earlier than April 1, 1953 for the construction of the municipal sewage disposal plant. Quotations of the three decorating firms for the washing of walls and ceilings in the City Hall were again reviewed by the Board. It was the decision of the Board that Verhostra Painting Companyts offer was the best submitted. The Board accordingly directed the Clerk to notify this firm to proceed immediately with the cleaning of the Main and Second Floor Lobbies and i'Vain Stairway of the City Hall at the quoted price of �277.00. NORTH HUEY STREET SEVIER The Petition of Nicholas A. Toth and three others for the improvement on NORTH HUEY STREET from 30 feet south of the south line of Hamilton Street to 264 feet south of the south line of Hamilton Street was received and placed on file. The Petition of Nicholas A. Toth and three others for the improvement of NORTH HUEY STREET from 30 feet south of the south line of Hamilton Street to 264 feet south of the south line of Hamilton Street by constructing a local sewer was referred to the -City Engineer. Ray S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, recommends petition of Nicholas A. Toth and three others for NORTH HUEY STREET local sewer be granted. Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates were ordered to prepare plans and -speci- fications for construction of local sewer on NORTH =Y STREET. ROBINSON STREET PAVE=�EINT The Petition, of Joseph Wroblewski and two others was received and placed on file for the improvement of ROBINSON STREET from the south line of Bowman Street to the north line of Donald Street The Petition of Joseph Wroblewski and two others for the improvement of ROBINSON STREET from the south line of Bowman Street to the north line of Donald Street by constructing a Class "C" Pavement was referred to the City Engineer. Davis and twelve others was received and placed on file for the improvement on NAPOLEAON BOULEVARD from the west line of St. Louis Boulevard to the west line of Notre.Dame Avenue. The Petition of Leroy D. Davis and twelve others for the improvement of NAPOLEON BOULEVARD from _the west line of St. Louis Boulevard to the west line of Notre Dame Avenue by constructing a Class "C" Pavement was referred to the City Engineer. • • • • 5671 Ray S. Gartner and Associates were ordered to prepare plans and specifications for construction of Class "C" Pavement on NAPOLEON BOULEVARD. ALLEY BETWEEN ADAPTS STREET AND COLLEGE STREET PAVEhT;NT The Petition of J. Roy Smith and fifteen others for the improvement of ALLEY BETWEEN ADAMS STREET AND COLLEGE STREET from the north line of Vassar Avenue to the South line of Humboldt Street was received and placed on file. The Petition of J. Roy Smith and fifteen others for the improvement of ALLEY BETWEEN ADAMS STREET AND COLLEGE STREET from the north line of Vassar Avenue to the south line of Humboldt Street by constructing a Class "C" Type 1 Pavement was referred to the City Engineer. Ray S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, recommends petition of J. Roy Smith and fifteen others for the improvement of ALLEY BETWEEN ADAMS STREET AND COLLEGE STREET for a Class "C" Pavement be granted. • Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates were ordered to prepare plans and specifications for construction of a Class "C" Pavement of ALLEY BETWEEN ADATVIS STREET AND COLLEGE STREET. A Surety Bond in the sum of $3,000.00, submitted by Standard Oil Company to replace Certified Check accompanying their bid on asphalt products, accepted by the Board at a subsequent regular meeting of recent date, was approved by the Board. i An Excavator's Bond in the sum of10,000.OQ for Niles Excavating Company, was j examined and approved by the Board. i• Excavator's Bond in the amount of N1,000.00 for Joseph W. Turnoek was examined and approved -by the Board. TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: The Traffic Department's need for ten 8-foot traffic signal posts, obtainable at the price of $412.00 each,from the South Bend Electric Company, was brought to the attention of the Board. The Board approved the release of Purchase Order NO.BW1276 to cover this purchase. The Traffic Department's need for eight 2-way one -section adjustable signals was brought to the attention of the Board and the Clerk was directed to proceed with the . purchase of this equipment in accordance with specifications furnished by the Traffic Engineer, E. H. Miller. Authorization was given by the Board for the purchase of three 2-way three, -section signals for L" post mounting underground feed, need by the Traffic Department, and the Clerk was.,directed to proceed to obtain this equipment.
