First appeared bef ore.the Board Mrs. Ideal Baldoni making inquiry in regard to ,
claim for damages to automobile caused by unprotected excavation in street, reported 4I
at time of accident, settlement for which is still pending. The Board advised Mrs.
Baldoni the matter will have immediate attention, and settlement, which involves also
the contractor, will be expedited in any way possible.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: ; +.
Grade, curb, walk and pavement plans, submitted by Place & Company, Inc., -for the
following locations in McKinley Terrace, Section "A", were examined and approved by
the Board:
Brighton Place Brool•hurst Place
Corby Street Patterson Drive
Sorin Street Nhitehall Drive
The Board examined and approved plan for grade and pavement, submitted by Place
and Company, Inc., for Hickory Road, I:TcKinley Terrace Section "A". •
:A. representative of the Permutit Water Softeners, 525 Lincolnway West, then appeared
before the Board and presented plans for the Board's examination showing an overhang
in the proposed construction at this address, and asking permission to allow this over-
hang. Inasmuch as this building is not located on a corner, and no hazard being apparen, M
the Board thereupon granted their approval. �'
TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT:
Ernest H. Miller, Traffic Engineer, being present, presented the report of Wm. J.
Stogdill, PA.D., indicating the need for continued treat-,ient for Devite Nelund, under
the care of Dr. Robert Denham, for back injury received as a municipal employee in •
the year 1951. Report was ordered placed on file.

The Traffic Department's need for 200 10-foot U-Posts, to be obtained from the
prison at Michigan City at a cost of $2.44 each, was brought to the Board's attention,
and the Clerk was directed to proceed with this purchase.
M STREET DEPARTMENT:
Harry M. Tomlinson., Street Commissioner, being present, turned over to the Board
. i a tabulation of bids opened -at the Board meeting of January 19th. Tabulation was
examined and the following contracts were awarded by the Board:
American Steel Supply Company = 40 Tons Calcium Chloride at $25.00 per ton. and
Mid -Continent Chemical Company - 40 Tons Calcium Chloride at per ton.

The matter of.new desks for the Council Chamber was again taken up by the Board
and specifications having been submitted by the Council president, Walter C. Erler,
the,Board directed the Clerk to proceed with the legal advertising for bids.
The matter of paving Mishawaka Avenue for the distance of 1320 feet from
. Twypkenham Drive to Greenlawn Avenue in front of the John Adams High School, was next
given attention by the Board, and the following resolution was adopted:
RESOLVED that we hereby instruct the Engineering Department to prepare plans
and specifications with which to proceed with the paving of Mishawaka Avenue, immediatel
in front of the grounds occupied by the John Adams High School, from Twyckenham Drive
to Greenlawn Avenue.
Some discussion took place, but no action was taken in the matter of the installing
of needed islands and signals, and the urgency for re -surfacing, at the intersection
of Bendix Drive and Westmoor.
In the absence of board member, Granville P. Ziegler, whose advice and concurrence
in the matter of the proposed washing of walls, ceilings, and woodwork of the lobbies
and certain offices in the City Hall, the Board took no action on the quotations
received to perform this work.

The Board approved Excavation Bonds, each in the sum of 81,000.00, for Strohm
Construction Company, Mishawaka, Indiana, and Edward J. White, Inc., South Bend Indiana,
and also Contractorts Bond, in the sum of 01,000.00 for Lafayette Pfiacumber & Sons, Inc.
Elkhart, Indiana.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned
