A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, May 26, 1952 at
10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and
approved. Claims of the -following suppliers,in the total amount of $2926.58, were
approved and ordered paid.

The Board again took up the matter of the easements for public utilities brought I�
to the Boardts attention at the last regular meeting by Attorney F. Jay Nimtz. After •
due consideration the Board agreed to release, in the matter of sewers, all easements
contained in Lots 63, 64.. 65, 66, 67 and 68, excepting the easement along the north- I
easterly line of Lot 63, and excepting the easement along the northerly line of lot 68;
all of said lots being in Edison Park, a sub -division of the City of South Bend, St.
Joseph County, Indiana.

Under date of April 3, 1952, was examined and approved by the Board. Recorded in
office of the County Recorder Book # , Page , and filed in Row # , Drawer I •
Mr. -Irving J. Smith appeared, representing the Auxiliary of the Jewish War Veterans
and requesting permission to hold a flower day sale on the downtown streets on July 2,
1952. Permission was so granted by the Board.
The written request of Harry and Bertha Zeigler for an easement for the purpose of
landscaping, planting grass, flowers, etc., at the location of the southwesterly half
of Clyde Street, from the easterly line of Twyckenham Drive to the southeasterly
boundary of Ridgedale Fifth Addition. The Board granted permission, in -line with this
request, specifying, however, that no large trees -are to be set out or permanent iE
installation of any kind is to be erected thereon, and that the City shall at all times
be free of any loss or damage in connection with the permission hereby granted.
IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 2702, 2703, 2709, 2715 - 1952
The Engineer's Report was received and Preliminary Order signed by the Board for �)
the following streets and alleys covered by the above Improvement Resolutions:
ILLINOIS STREET from the north line of Western Avenue to the
south line of -Washington Street in accordance with Improvement Resolution No.2702
for a Class C, Type 11 Cement Concrete Pavement AND
KENMORE STREET from the south line of Western Avenue to the north i
line of Ford Street in accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2715 for a Class
f'C"t Type 3 Asphalt Base Binder and Surface Pavement AND �)
KLINGER STREET from the east line of Michigan Street to the west
line of Charles Street in accordance with Improvement Resolution 2709 for a Class 'fC't
Type 1 Cement Concrete Pavement AND
ALLEYS BETWEEN DONALD STREET, FOX STREET, DALE AVENUE AND 14IAMI
STREET in accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2703 for Class 110 Type 1
Cement Concrete Pavement.
RESOLUTION ADOPTED FINAL ASSESSMENT ROLL NO. 2673 -1952
After hearing all persons interested who appeared and the Clerk of the Board of ��

of Public Works and Safety having proofs of publication of the notices to property
owners and the same having been found sufficient, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, that the -Primary of Preliminary Assessment Roll adopted by the Board on the
28th day of April, 1952, for the improvement of TWENTIETH STREET PAVEMENT be and the
same_ is in all things confirmed.

)A letter addressed to the Board from the Amalgamated Association of -Street,
IEleatric Railwayand Motor Coach Employees of American, Division No. 996, under date
i+of May 20, 1952 was read and ordered placed on file.
The following petitions were examined by the Board -and referred to the City
ineer for investigation of the improvement requested, and a report of his findings:
HUMBOLDT STREET from Fremont Street to alley west of Meade Street.
WASHINGTON AVENUE from Ironwood Drive to the East Curb line of Tuxedo Street.
WILSON STREET from Ironwood Drive to west property line of Tuxedo -Street.
FIRST ALLEY VEST OF MICHIGAN STREET from Donald Street to Ewing Avenue.
ALLEY FROM CHAPIN STREET to Prairie Avenue.

A petition for vacating a 121 portion of Woodside Street adjacent to the north
!side of the Edwards Iron Works building, as illustrated in drawing accompanying the
• ;petition was examined and referred bythe Board to the City Plan Commission.
STREET DEPARTMENT: Street Commissioner H. M. Tomlinson, was present and took up with
rthe Board his personal observations and recommendations in regard to the Meade Street
ailroad crossing, over which Olive Street traffic is being temporarily re-routed and
'which involves both the New York Central and the South Shore Lines. Question arose as
�to which railroad assumes responsibility over a certain portion of right-of-way at
this crossing, and the Board agreed the matter should be referred to the City Traffic
Ingineer for his investigation and report.
A petition for the installing of traffic lights at the corner of Western and
Sheridan Avenues was examined and ordered to be referred to the Traffic Engineer for
• iinvestigation and report.
Contractor's Bond in the amount of $1,000.00 of the Hilton Construction Company,.
Inc., was examined and approved by the Board.
