All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The lay -out of Tuxedo Park Subdivision was shown and detailed explanation of plans outlined to the Board by Mr. Searer. Vacation Resolution No. 2701 This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by the Board of Public Works for the vacation --of - 1. East Washington Avenue from a point 130 feet East of the East line of Tuxedo Drive. East a distance of 458 feet to the West line of Twenty -Sixth Street as laid out and dedicated in the recorded Plat of Tuxedo Park Second Subdivision of lots in Jefferson Heights Addition to the City of South Bend. 2. Twenty -Sixth Street as laid out and dedicated in the recorded plats of Tuxedo Park First and Second Subdivisions of lots in Jefferson Heights Addition to the City of South Bend from the North line of Marhsall Street North a distance of 1300.5 feet to the South line of Colfax Avenue excepting therefrom the intersection of Wilson Street. I' 3. Twenty -Fifth Street from the North line of Washington Avenue North a distance of 410 feet to the South line of Colfax Avenue. i 4. The first North -South alley East of Tuxedo Drive from the North line of j Washington Avenue North a distance of 410 feet to the South line of Colfax Avenue, 5. The first North -South Alley East of Tuxedo Drive from the North line of Colfax Avenue North a distance of 133 feet to the North boundary line of the recorded plat of Tuxedo Park Second Subdivision of lots in Jefferson Heights Addition to the City of South Bend. 1 I� 9. The first North -South alley East of Twenty -Fifth Street from the North line of Colfax Avenue North a distance of 133 feet to the North Boundary line of j the recorded plat of Tuxedo Park Second Subdivision of lots in Jefferson Heights Addition to the City of south Bend. it 10. Twenty -Sixth Street from the North boundary line of Tuxedo Park Second Subdivision of lots in Jefferson Heights Addition to the City of South Bend North a distance of 605.9 feet to the South line of McKinley Avenue under Vacation Resolution No. 2701. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution • • C� 0 goo I be finally adopted and the said streets and alleys be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of bene- ,.. fits and the award of damages to the surrounding properties. i STREET DEPARTMENT: Harry M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, was present and brought to the attention I; of the Board the impassable condition in the alley at the rear of premises at 318 South ' Illinois Street. The City Engineer, being present, informed Mr. Tomlinson that Paul L. Roelke, Engineer for the Colpaert Realty Corporation, has been notified of this condition and will report within a short time whether or not the Colpaert Realty Corporation is.assu_ming further responsibility in the maintaining of the alley at j this location. 13 Mr. Tomlinson next mentioned inquiries he is receiving from bidders concerning i quantities of certain materials to be covered by bid and required in determinin the amount of the bid deposit. The Commissioner stressed the importance of avoi pd- ing the obligating of an excessive quantity of any material. , The Board directed the Clerk to show on the specifications available for bidders, the amount of 10,000 yards of less to apply to the three different types of gravel. l Mr. Tomlinson brought to the attention of the Board two pieces of Street Depart- ment equipment, namely, the trailer for hauling the bull -dozer and the power roller. He called attention to the trailer as being unsatisfactory from a safety standpoint and mentioned his preference for an underslung type. The power roller is found to be in bad mechanical condition. The pull -roller was also mentioned and Mr. Tomlinson made inquiry as to the Department's probable need for this piece of equipment. i The City Engineer recommended this pull -roller be retained as it will be found highly useful, convenient and necessary for certain seasonal work. i Mr. Tomlinson also brought to the Board's attention the hazardous dondi .i_on of the railroad tracks at the point where the New -York Central (01d Michigan Central) • crosses East Colfax Avenue. The Board directed the -Clerk to write to the New York Central yardmaster, Harold G. Wheeler, with copy of same to John Kelly, Indiana State Highway District Engineer, LaPorte, bringing the situation -to their attention. i City Engineer, Ray S. Andrysiak brought to the attention of the Board, the need I for better quarters for the office files and records of the Interc°eptor Sewer Resident Enl i neer's Office now in an unsuitable and fire -hazardous stucco building at 714 Niles Avenue. The Engineer recommends use of effice space available at the North Pumping Station adjoining office assigned to the City Electrical Ins ector Herb Harrison. P s Herbert E. jl Virginia, Guthrie, Executive Secretary for South Bend Civic Planning Association, �I • I was present and suggested that a map of the city, similar in size to that provided i for the Ialayor's office, be purchased and installed in the Council Chambers for the ;? convenience of the Common Council. The Board: approved Miss Guthriets suggestion + and directed the Clerk to proceed with the purchase and installation of the map. I I, The following Excavation Bonds were examined and approved by the Board E. A. Strohm D/B/ as Strohm Construction Company, Mishawaka, Indiana Edmund L. Zimmerman , A Resolution referred by the Common Council, as adopted by the St. Joseph County Industrial Union Council, in a meeting held January 16, 1952 was read by the Board and ordered placed on file for further study. Ii Pair. Milo D. Dugdale appeared before the Board and presented his views concerning lithe Tuxedo Park subdivision, pointing out his reasons for opposition to the layout of this new residential district. There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting adjourned at 12:10 M. ATTEST: Clerk.
