A regular meetings. of the Board cf:'public Works was held on Monday, January 28, 1952 j
at 10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read'
and approved. Claims -of the following suppliers, in the amount of 13,oa7.N were
approved and ordered paid:

Mr. Andrysiak, the City Engineer brought to the attention of the Board the condition
of the curbs and the parking situation on the north side of Western Avenue adjacent
and belonging to the property at the corner of Lafayette Boulevard and Western Avenue.i^
It was agreed that the owner of the property should be notified and requested to
restore the broken and missing curbing and informed that such restoration must be
made within the next ninety days, at which time the City intends to install parking 0
meters.
A remonstrance dated January 8, 1952, bearing twelve signatures, against either the
paving of, or the widening of Ironwood Road from Ewing Avenue south to the City Limits
was read and ordered placed on file.
TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT:
Ernest H. Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and brought to the attention of the
Board the New York Central Railroadts request for the closing of Olive and Sample
Streets to traffic for a period of two weeks, while major improvements are to be
under construction. The matter received consideration and it was decided, in view
of the long detour involved, the possibility of further bad weather, a blockade of
this type would be highly undesirable at this season of the year and that the
railroad should make plans for a method of construction, which would not necessitate
the closing of the entire crossing for S6 long a period of time. The clerk was
directed to write the New York Cenral Railroad Company a letter setting forth the Boar0 s
decision.
Mr.Miller also brought to the attention of the Board the need of his department for
certain equipment of an estimated value of $3600.00. It being determined that ample
funds had been set up in the current budget to meet such needs, the Board directed
the Clerk to proceed with advertising for bids to supply the required equipment.
Mrs. Peter C. Winther, 3803 Lincolnway West, and attorney George Beamer appeared
before the Board in the matter of the grading of Elwood and Illinois Streets. The
matter was discussed at length and the City Engineer explained the grades to which
the sub -divider will be held in full and complete detail.
VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2697 - 1952
This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by the
Board of Public Works for the vacation of West Colfax Avenue from Brookfield Street
to Johnson Street under Vacation Resolution No. 2697. The Clerk of the Board having
shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and no
written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and
unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally adopted and the said street
be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll
covering the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the surrouhdi.ng
properties.
Mr. R. S. Ardrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the awards
of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of West
Colfax avenue from Brookfield Street to Johnson Street under Vacation Resolution
No. 2697.
In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in
the City Hall at 11:00 A. M. on the 11th day of FebruaXy,1952, for the purpose of
hearing and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by
said vacation, and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together
with the amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed to be addressed to the
Property owners by publishing same on the 1st day of February and the 8th day of
February 1952, in the South Bend Daily Tribune and the Tri-County News.

the Board of Public Works for the vacation of the alley East of St: Peter Street
from the South Line of the'First alley South of Wayne Street to the north line
of the Grand Trunk Railroad right-cf-way, under Vacation Resolution No. 2698.
The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no
remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with
the Clerk, it was moved, and seconded and unanimously carried that the said
resolution be'finally adopted and the said alley,be vacated. The Engineering
Department is directed to -prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of
