All members were present. Minutes of previous.meeting were read and approved. Claims of the following suppliers, in the amount of $58.76 were approved and ordered paid: Office Supply & Equipment Co.----- $1.15 Indiana F3e11 Telephone Co.--$11.59 G. E. Meyer & Son, Inc.---------- .9.0 Sidwell Studio- ----------- .20.00 The Office Engineers, Inc.------ 15.71 Indiana Bell Telephone Co.-- 9.41 STREET DEPARTMENT: Indiana Bell Telephone Co. ------ $10.04 Indiana & Michigan Elect.---$93.60 So. Bend Sand & Gravel Corp.----- .20.96 Ind. Lumber & Mfg. Co. ---- 114.65 Mrs. Bernice E. Rerick, President of the Mothers of Marines Organization and another lady representative presented request for permission to conduct their ahhual Rose Day on June 21, 1952. Permission was granted and the clerk directed ! to furnish a letter of confirmation. I 0. Frank Helvie applied for permission to conduct annual Crippled Children's Lily Drive on the principal streets in April. Permission was granted for the - date of Saturday, April 5, 1952. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT The City Engineer reports there is no activity on the North Side Boulevard interceptor sewer project by the Fattore Company of Center Line, Michigan cpntractors. The Board decided to direct a letter to the Fattore Company with a copy to Ralph Moorehouse, Resident Bngineer for the interceptor sewer projects, demanding a complete report to the Board concerning their plans for the early completion of their contract and requesting a definite work schedule. Attorney L. W. Hammond appeared before the Board relative to the vacation of a portion of - THE ALLEY EAST OF ST PETER STREET FROM THE SOUTH LINE OF THE FIRST ALLEY SOUTH OF WAYNE STREET TO THE NORTH LINE OF THE GRAND TRUNK RAILROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY. The Clerk was ordered by the Board to assign a Resolution number and to publish notice for a public hearing. II STREET DEPARTMENT . !� Harry Tomlinson,Street Commissioner, was present and matters pertaining to his department were discussed. I i TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer was present and called the attention of the Board to city employee, Dwight Neland, of his department, who suffered a back injury in 1948 in line of duty and for which the City has provided medical treatment. Mr. Miller asked authority to continue these treatments with Dr. R. H. Denham. Jr. Mr. Miller was so authorized by the Board. I' Attorney Leo P. Rieder appeared before the Board in the matter of vacation Resolution #2696 VACATION RESOLUTION #2696 C 5� R. S. In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby order that it will meet in the City Hall At 11:00 A. M. on the 14th day of January 1952 for the purpose of hearing and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said vacation, and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by publishing same on the 4th of January andllth day of January 1952 in the South Bend Daily Tribune and Tri County News. This being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment roll showing the award of damages and' the assessment of benefits in thematter of vacation of A PORTION OF COLUMBIA STREET DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS: Commencing at a point on the West Line of Columbia Street at a point 134 northeasterly at right angles from the northeasterly line of Lincolnway east. Thence southeasterly across Columbia Street on a line projected southeasterly to the east line of said Columbia Street and which line before projection southeasterly is 134 feet northeasterly at right angles and parallel to the northeasterly line of Lincoln way East; thence north along the East line of Columbia Street to the Riverts edge; thence northwesterly along the riverts edge to the west line of Columbia street, thence south along west line of Columbia Street to place of beginning; Said vacation being subject to all easements now existing and inuring to the benefit of public utilities operating in the City of South Bend. Under vacation resolution No. 2696. In the above named assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances were. filed, the Clerk of.the Board submitted proofs of publication of notices and' same were found sufficient, and the Board, therefore, finds that the several lots and parcels of land have been bene- fitted and damaged in the amounts shown on said -roll. The Board, therefore, decided to take final action on said assessment roll.and declares same in all things ratified, confirmed and approved without modification. and the proceedings closed, and the portion of the street vacated uppn receipt of the amount of benefit assessments from the various property owners so benefited and all proceedings had with reference to said street vacation are hereby sustained. The time being 12:00 Noon, the meeting was recessed and reconvened at 1:30 P.M. The following four Vacation Resolutions were then acted upon: RESOLVED BY THE BAORD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: That it is desirable to vacate the following: VACATION RESOLUTION NO.2699 , 1952 WEST VICTORIA STREET FROM MICHIGAN STREET WEST TO THE EAST LINE OF THE NORTH AND SOUTH ALLEY, EXCEPTING THE 20 FEET IN THE CENTER, WHICH IS TO BE RESERVED FOR AN ALLEY. The following property may be injuriously or benficially affected by such vacation: Lots Numbered 6 and 7, Stuilts 6th Addition. i Notice of this resolution shall.be published on the 18th day of January and on the 25 day of January 1952 in the South Bend Daily Tribune and Tri County News . This Board, at its office in the City Hall on the 28 day of January 1952 at 11:00 A. M. will hear and receive remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by these proceedings. An amendment of Plat of Belleville Gardens Second Unit,cpuered by an indenture signed by the Colpaert Realty Corporation, was examined and approved by the Board. DEDICATION WHEREAS, a plat with dedication of streets indicated thereon is now presented to the Board to be known as Whitcomb & Kellerts 6th Sunnymede an addition to South Bend, Indiana and j This plat and dedication is filed in the records of the Board of Public Works and Safety in Row # /8 , Drawer # 6 , and recorded in Book # /f(, Page(W" in the Recorderts Office of St. Joseph County. Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that all public streets, and public places dedicated to the public use.in said plat are hereby accepted and approved by said Board for an on. behalf of the City of South Bend, Indiana. License Bond of the Gino Vannoni & Sons was examinedy ap proved and -ordered filed# also bonds for Slutsky Plumbing & heatingg Co., John W. Rensberger, and C. S. Randolph were approved and ordered filed. The matter of the housing units occupying the Plaza Site Housing kroject was considered and the Board instructed the clerk to notify Nicholas Augustine to discontinue renting any further units in this project. This is in line with the established policy of the Board to liquidate the Plaza Site Housing Project. A Petition was received from Frank and Helen Magrames to vacate ttae alley lying between Lots 317 and 264 in the 2nd Plat of LaSalle Park, purpose being to correct an error in Vacation Resolution #1809 made in 1927 -1928 was referred to the City Planning Commission.
