Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. A petition was received asking for the installation of a traffic signal at the inter section of Fellows and Bronson Streets. Mr. Miller informed the Board that his budget7 for traffic signal installations for this year has been exhausted, and also that he does not believe vehicular traffic at this intersection warrants the installation of a traffiii signal. He recommends the installation of stop signs at each street making this a Boor-; way stop. A letter was sent to petitioners informing them of Mr. Millerts recommendab tion and the stop signs were ordered installed. The following traffic signals were ordered installed: At the intersection of Ironwood and McKinley - 3-lens curb type. At the intersection of Dub ail, Prairie, and Oliver 3-lens curb type. The Following stop signs were ordered installed, changed and removed; Sample Street at Mayflower Road, both sides. i Vassar Avenue at Olive Street, northeast corner. Albert Street at Ford Street, both sides. i; STOP SIGNS CHANGED TO SCOTCHLITE STOP SIGNS: Broadway at Miami Street, both sides. Pennsylvania Avenue at Miami Street, southwest corner. Pennsylvania Avenue at High Street, both sides. , STOP SIGNS REMOVED; LaSalle at Hill Street, both sides !i Tyyckenham Drive at Jefferson Street, both sides Eddy Street at Colfax Avenue, both sides. No action was taken as the matter is to be to -11 ken up with the Common Council. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT; Contractor's Bond was approved and ordered filed for Joseph .1 Muia. - 3 A letter was received from the City of Mishawaka agreeing to share equally with thejj • City of South Bend in the cost of repairing the Ironwood Bridge. The sum of $937.00 is 1 the estimated cost of the project, one-half of which is to be borne by the City of Misha j waka and one-half by the City of South Bend. The Board approved said agreement.�E A petition was received requesting the vacation of West Victoria Street from Michi-It Street west to the north and south alley excepting a twenty foot strip in the center;' which is to be reserved for alley purposes. This was referred to the City Plan Commission. x � A petition was received requestingthe vacation of a '' part of the cast and west alley south of Calvert Street. This was referred to the City Engineering Department for the preparation of a vacation resolution. I • A petition was received requesting the vacation of Ike -North & South Alley between 1 Webster & Arnold St. from the No. line of Ewing Ave. This was referred to the City Engineering Department for the preparation of a vacation resolution. i :3 j f � , A letter was received from the City Plan Commission indicating that they recommend the vacation of the alley south of California Avenue from Wilbur Street to Adams Street. The City Engineering Department w4s directed to prepare a vacation resolution for same. VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2689, 1951 RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: That it is desirable to vacate the following: • °A PART OF KLINGER STREET as shown on the recorded plat of Whitcomb and Keller's Beverly Heights 5th Addition, described as follows: Beginning at a point on the I north line of Klinger Street 50 feet east of the southwest corner of Lot Numbered 120 of said addition; thence easterly on the north line of Klinger Street 122 feet to the southeast corner of Lot Numbered 122 of said addition; thence south 19 degrees, 15 feet east, 12 feet to a point due east of the place of beginning - thence west to,the place of beginning. Noble, Clerk 2T-12-19 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY 1 i VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2686, 1951 This being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment roll showing the award of damages and the assesment of benefits in the matter of Vacation of FIRST ALLEY VEST OF SCOTT STREET from Lincoln inlay West to the south line of the alley north of Lincolnway West under Vacation Resolution No. 2686. �j In the above named assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written remon- strances were filed, the Clerk of the Board submitted proofs of publication of notices j and same were found sufficient, and the Board, therefore, finds that the several lots j' and parcels of land have been benefited and damaged in the amounts shown on said roll. The Board, therefore, decided to take final action on said assessment roll and declares same in all things ratified, confirmed and approved without modification and the proceed. ings closed, and the alley vacated upon receipt of the amount of benefit assessments froz the various property owners so benefited and,all proceedings had with reference to said alley vacation are hereby sustained. SEWAGE DISPOSAL: The Board approved Change Order #2 for Contract 3A of the Intercepting Sewer for the Niles Excavating Company for resurfacing North Shore Drive between Angela Boulevard and Parkovash Avenue. • The Board approved Change Order #3 for Contract 2A of the Intercepting Sewer for Thomas D. Nolan, Contractor, for sinking a shaft approximately.300 feet south of the original location in the 54 inch tunnel on Miles Avenue. STREET DEPARTMENT: Melton 0. 'i ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT ENGINEER'S REPORT Nos. 2675, 2679 and 2 82, 1951 South Bend, Indiana_ + The Board of Public Works & Safety October 8, 1951 City of South Bend, Indiana Gentlemen: In the matter of the bids for the improvement of ILLINOIS STREET from the south lin of Western Avenue to the north.line of Huron Street in accordance with Improvement Reso- • lution No. 2675, 1951, AND 350 V1'ELLINGTON STREET from the south line of Huron Street to the north line of Ford Street in accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 26?9, 1951, AND NORTH SHORE DRIVE from the west line of Michigan Street to the east line of Lafayette Blvd., in accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2682, 1951, passed by this Board on August 20, 1951, and confirmed by this Board on September 17, 1951, we hereby report that we we have examined the several bids submitted to the Board on October 1, 1951 and find that the Reed Construction Company, Mishawaka, Indiana, has the lowest and best bids for Class "C" pavements on Illinois and Wellington Streets and Bituminous Concrete (AHJ re -surface pavement on North Shore Drive and that all other bids were over Engineer►s Estimate. We recommend that the kind of pavements placed on Illinois and Wellington Streets b� a Class "C" - Cement Concrete pavements; and a Bituminous Concrete (AH) Re -surface pavement on North Shore Drive.
