The following letter was received from Nor. Miller, Traffic Engineer, which is self-
explanatory:
Gentlemen
Re: Petttion requesting traffic regulations on Ironwood Drive
bet�,een Calvert Street and Ewing Avenue.
The City of Mishawaka received a similar petition since Ironwood Drive is the divid-
ing linebetween the two cities.

I have contacted Chief Bolderjack of the Mishawaka Police Dept. to whom the petition
was referred. After discussion of the problems involved.it was decided that it would be
impractical to prohibit trucks from using Ironwood Drive as this is the only through Stve t
capable of handling truck traffic between Logan Street in Mishawaka and Twyckenham Drive
in South Bend. Logan Street is one mile east of Ironwood and Twyekenham Drive is one-hal
mile west of Ironwood.
?Thirty Mile Per hour -Signs will be installed on Ironwood Drive between L. W. E., and
Ewing Avenue both in South Bend, and Mishawaka.

Mr. Robert Hajzyk appeared before the Board to present a petition to prohibit truck
traffic on Camden Street from Sample to Western Avenue. This was referred to Mr. Miller
for investigation and report.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractorst Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Clifford
ones and William r. Myers. -
The Board approved plans for pavement on Klinger Street from the alley west of Addi-
son Street to St. Joseph Street.
The Board approved plans and specifications for a pavement on LaSalle Avenue from
the east line of 141ain Street to the west line of Hill Street. The Clerk of the Board was
directed to advertise for bids for the above pavement with bids to be returned October 1,.
1951 at 11:00 a.m.
Wallace R. Schwalm and Merritt Schwalm appeared before the Board to present a peti-
tion to vacate the first alley west of Eddy Street from Washington Street north to the
alley north of Washington Street. This was referred to the City Engineering Department
for the preparation of a vacation resolution.
The Board approved the driveway plans for the building at the northwest corner of
West Calvert Street and South Franklin Street for•the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company.
This plan was approved with the understanding that every time a truck is backed in to the
building, a CD
guard will be posted at the sidewalk and that all vehicles will be completely
off of public property during loading and unloading operations.
A complaint having been received regarding smoke nuisance emanating from a building
at 232 South St. Joseph Street, Mr. Fred Elbel, w.ner of the Peerless Press, who occupies
said building was directed to appear before the Board on Monday, September 24, 1951 at
11:00 a.m., regarding the above complaint.
VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2686
R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the awards of
damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of the first alley
west of Scott Street from. Lincoln Way West to the south line of the alley north of Lincol
Way West under Vacation Resolution '�o. 268E,
In the above named assessment roll, the Board 'hereby orders that it will meet in the •..
City Hall at 11:00 a.m., on the 8th day of October, 1951 for thepurpose of hearing and
receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said vacation, and
the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount of damages
awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by publishing same on h
the 21st day of September and on the 28th day of September, 1951, in the South Bend Daily
Tribune and the Weekly Tri-County News.

Notice is hereby given, that the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South B
Bend, Indiana, on the lst day of October, 1951, at the hour of ll:00 a.m., C.S.T., at the
office of the Board, in the City Hall, in said City, will open and consider sealed bids,
and designate by preliminary order the kind of pavement to be.used, for the following
described street improvements, as provided for in improvement Resolution Number 2675,
1951, duly passed by said Board on August 20, 1951, and confirmed on September 17, 1951,
to wit: ILLINOIS STREET from the south line of Western Avenue to the north line of Huron
Street by constructing a Class 11C" pavement, AND
Improvement Resolution No. 2679, 1951, duly passed by said Board on August 20, 1951, and
confirmed on September 17, 1951, to wit: VGELLINGTON STREET from the south line of Huron
Street to the north line of Ford Street by constructing a Class "C" pavement, AND
improvement Resolution Number 2682, 1951, duly passed by said Board on August 20, 1951,
and confirmed on September 17, 1951, to wit: NORTH SHORE DRIVE from the :rest line of Mi
Michigan Street to the east line of Lafayette Blvd., by constructing a Class "C" Bitumi-
1nous Concrete (AH) Re -surf ace pavement.
Provided, all bids for the construction of said work, shall be filed in the office
of the Clerk of the Board of Public Works and Safety of said City before 11:00 o1clock
AM -CST of said day.
Each bidder for said work shall enclose with his bid a Certified Check payable to
the Treasurer of said City, in the sum of two and one-half (2-;Iy) per cent of the amount
of his bid or a bid bond for two and one-half (22) per cent of the amount of his bid,
to insure the execution of Contract, if said work is awarded to him.
Detailed plans and specifications for said improvements are on file in the office
of the Board of Public Works and Safety.
The Board of Public Works and Safety reserves the right to reject any and all bids.
