Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Salary claims in the amount of $30,915.44 were approved and ordered paid. Mr. Miller was granted permission to go to Indianapolis, September 6 and 7 to confe3 with State Officials on off-street parking. The Board approved the installation of a traffic signal at Bronson and Main Streets; 3-lens curb type. RAILROADS: A remonstrance was received from &mployees of the Torrington Company against trains at the Olive and Sample Street grade crossing blocking the crossing for as much as 30 minutes. The Board directed that a letter be sent to these people informing them that inasmuch as they did not name the railroad whose trains block the crossing, there is little that can be done at this time. The Board further asked that the interested persons realize that several railroads use that particular grade crossing and asked that the name of the offending railroad be submitted together with the number of the train, if possible. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Excavation Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Midland Engineering Company, Inc.; and Northern Indiana Public Service Company. Contractors' Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Chicago South Shore & South Bend Railroad Company of Michigan City, Indiana; James F. Keller; Lawrence Poturalski; William W. Taylor; and John C..VonBergen. RESOLUTION ADOPTING FINAL ASSESSMENT ROLL No. 2666s 1951 Board of Public Works and Safety: South Bend, Indiana September 4, 1951 After hearing all persons interested who appeared and the clerk of the Board of Public Works and Safety having proofs of publication of the notices to property owners and the same having been found sufficient, therefore. Be It Resolved, By the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that the Primary of Preliminary Assessment Roll adopted by the Board on the 13 day of August, 1951, for the improvement of KENMORE STREET from north line of Western Avenue to south line of Linden Avenue by constructing a Class "C" Type 1 - Cement Conre Pavement be and the same is in all things confirmed. Bruggner BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY )te • • • 0 0 . 335 • 0 • 0 • 0 Mr. Ralph Kinyon, 2206 Miami Street, appeared before the Board to ask permission to construct a permanent type canopy on a building at the above address, which will extend two (2) feet over the sidewalk. Permission was granted. Mr. Fisher, representing the United Fund, appeared before the Board to ask permissio to_place posters advertising the United Fund on the electric lamp posts in down town Sout Bend. The Board granted permission provided the posters will not be fastened to the post with wire or in any way that will injure the finish of the post. The Board approved plans for a pavement on Addison Street from Jennings Avenue to Klinger Street, STREET DEPARTMENT: Melton 0. Brannan, Street Commissioner, was present and matters per- taining to his department were discussed. CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was -present and matters pertaining to his department were discussed. A petition was received askingthat truck traffic be prohibited in the alley between Illinois and Wellington Streets, north of Western Avenue. This was referred to Mr. Mille Ifor investigation and report. i :'BUSSES: A letter was received from the Northern Indiana Transit, Inc., ackno*ledging receipt of the petition for the extension of bus service on South Bend Avenue and indicat ing that a report will be made within the next week. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractorts Bond was approved and ordered filed for Paul Pocza. An Excavation Bond was approved and ordered filed for Goheen Plumbing & Heating Com- pany, Inc., Mishawaka, Indiana. A petition was received asking"for the construction of a permanent type pavement on South Illinois Street from 'Washington Street to Jefferson Street. This was referred to the City Engineer for investigation.
