Improvement Res1lution h o. 2683, 1951, for the improvement.of.HILL STREET from the north
line of Corby St., to the south line of Howard St., by constructing a,Class IV' pavement.!?.
All work done in the making of said described public improvements shall be in accord-'
,ante with the terms and conditions of Improvement Resolutions Nos. 2675, 2676, 2679, 2682
and 2683, 1951, adopted by the Board of Public Works and Safety on the named day, and the;;
!profiles, drawings, plans, general details, specifications and estimates to be adopted
by the Board of Public Works and Safety of such City, upon the final adoption of said
resolutions and placed on file in the office of the Department of Engineering BE said
City.
The Board of Public Works and Safety will meet in its Office in the City Hall on
the llth day of September., 1951, at..the hour of 6:30 otclock PM -CST, for the purpose of
hearing and considering all remonstrances, which may have been filed or which may be pre
tented, and will hear all persons interested or whose property is affected by said pro-
posed improvements, and will decide whether the benefit that will accrue to the property.,
abutting and adjacent to the proposed improvements and to said City, will be equal to or
exceed the estimated cost of the proposed improvements as estimated by the City Civil
Engineer.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, August 27, 1951
at 9:30 a.m. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and

TRAFFIC ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was , g , present and matters,':,

j Mr. L. M. Koher, 2117 South Ironwood Drive appeared before the Board to present a
petition protesting against heavy truck traffic and lack of speed control signs on South
Ironwood Drive. This petition was referred to Mr. Miller for investigation and report.
j BUSSES: MR. Paul J. Swartz, 1612 South Bend Avenue, Mr. Stanley Miller, 1225 Black Oak
Drive and Arthur Fris-:k, 1241 Black Oak Drive appeared before the Board to present a pe-
tition asking for bus service to Wooded Estates, on South Bend°Avenue from Talbot Street
i to -Edison Road to Ironwood Drive. This petition was referred to the Northern Indiana
Transit, Incorporated, with the request for a study of the situation and a report to the
Board.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Excavation Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Thomas Szab
d b a Thomas Construction Company; and John Lidgard.
I Contractors' Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Allen's Nursery of LaPorte,
Indiana; George Curtis; Grant E. Stump; and Whitcomb & Keller, Incorporated.

The Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad Company was granted permission to n.
j run their work train East
on LaSalle Street from Main Street east at their yards from

September 4s to September 21, inclusive for using during their construction work.
` Complaints having been received again about conditions in the dumping area in the
vicinity of Falcon and Dundee Streets, a letter°was sent to Place and Company advising
them that unless the precautions outlined at their meeting with the Board on May 7, 1951,
are taken immediately and fully complied with and the land is completely filled in, it

will be necessary for the Board to consider closing the area for dumping. They were
asked to advise the Board at their next regular meeting of their intentions in the matter

Permission was granted to hold a Street Dance on Kenmore Street between Jefferson
{ and Western Avenue on Friday, August 31, from 6:00 to 12:00 midnight.

Ilic Works and Safety having proofs of publication of the notices to property owners and
jthe same having been found sufficient, therefore,
Be It Resolved, By the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, that the Primary of Preliminary Assessment Roll adopted by the Board on the 13th
day of August, 1951, for the improvement of WELLINGTON STREET from the north line of
Western Avenue to the south line of Linden Avenue by constructing a Class "C" Cement Con-
crete pavement be and the same is in all things confirmed.
