A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, July 23, 1951 at
j 9:30 a.m. All members were present.. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and ap-
proved. Claims of the following suppliers in the amount of $8,824.99 were approved and
j ordered paid;

TRAFFIC ENGINEERING: Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters pertain-
ing to his department were discussed.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractors' Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Donald
Bowerman; Leroy Hitchner; Ike K. Knutson; Oden_R. Robertson; and Snyder & May General
Mason Contractors.

Excavation Bonds were approved and ordered filed for the Indiana Bell Telephone Co.,';
and George E. Sibley Company. js
A petition was received asking for the improvement of Illinois Street by a pavement
from Washington Street to Linden Avenue. This was referred to the City Engineer for in-
vestigation and report.
A petition was received asking for the vacation of the first alley south of Califor
nia from Wilbur Street to the first alley west of Wilbur Street; and, also, the first
alley south of California from Adams Street to the first alley east of Adams Street. Th
was referred to the City Plan Commission for investigation and report.
A letter was received from the Indiana and Michigan Electric Company asking permiss
to remove and replace sidewalks over transformer vaults at nine locations in the South
Bend business district. Permission was granted for the said remodeling.
A Certificate of Insurance was filed by the Reed Construction Company on cars and
motor vehicles.
The New York Central Railroad Company withdrew their remonstrance against the asses-
sment roll on Improvement Resolution Number 2644-1950 and the Board now confirms the said
Assessment Roll. -
VACATION RESD LUTION NO. 2678
This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by thei
Board of Public Works for the vacation of alley between Main and Michigan Streets from
Navarre Street north to the south line of the alley north of Navarre Street under Vacati.oll
Resolution No. 2678. The vacation of this alley having been approved contingent to plans;
bearing the signature of approval of the various utilities, whose facilities are involved;
in this alley, and said plans not having been received by the Board to date, hearing on
said vacation resolution is now continued until Monday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m.

party to whom was awarded the contract and who performed the work under Improvement Reso
lution No. 2669-1951, LOMBARDY DRIVE PAVEMENT.
That he is familiar with and personally knows( the requirements of the plans and spe
cifications of said improvement resolution and further knows that the said Reed Construe
tion Company in the performance of said work complied with all the terms and conditions
of °said plans and specifications in every partiffular, and that the material used was of
the character, kind, quantity and quality required therein and according to and under
the- direction of the Board of Public Works and Safety

under Improvement Resolution No. N669-1951 has been completed in accordance with the
plans and specifications for this project.

1951 on the improvement known as the LOMBARDY DRIVE PAVEMENT as described in mpromment
Resolution No. 2669-1951 passed by the Board of Public Works and Safety on A r*1 4 19510
and confirmed by said Board on May 7, 1951, be and the same is hereby adoptFed, and the
Clerk of this Board is hereby requested to give notice of the hearing of Special Benefits

land the Clerk of the Board having shown proofs of publication of notices to property
iowners and some having been found sufficient, the Board decides that the benefits to the
!property liable to be assessed for said improvements are equal to the estimated cost of

a bid bond for two and one-half (2-2) per cent of the amount of his bid, to insure the
execution of this contract, if said work is awarded to him.
The clerk of this Board is hereby ordered, to give notice by two (2) weekly publi-
cations of the time and place, when and where bids will be received, opened and considere
for theconstruction of said work. Said C l rk shall state in said notices, that each bid-

To Whom It May Concern:
Notice is hereby given, that the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of
South Bend, Indiana, on the 6th day of August, 1951, at the hour of 10:00 AM -CST, at the
office of the. Board, in the City Hall, in said City, will open and consider sealed bids,
and designate by preliminary order the kind of pavement to be used, for the following
described Street improvements, as provided for in Improvement Resolution No. 2643-1950,
duly passed by said Board on June 25, 1951, and confirmed on July 23, 1951, to wit:
RANDOLPH STREET from the east line of 'lwyekenham Drive to the west line of Robinson St.,
by constructing a Class "C" pavement, AND
VINE STREET from the east line of Twenty-sixth Street to the west line of Twenty-seventh
Street.by constructing a Class "C".pavement,/AND
under Vacation Resolution No. 2672�1951
TWENTIETH STREET from the south line of Mishawaka Avenue to the south lira of Hammond &
Whitcomb's Addition by constructing a Class "C" pavement, under Vacation Resolution No.
2673-1951.
Provided, all bids for the construction of said work, shall be filed in the office
of the Clerk of the Board of Public Works and Safety of said City before 10:00 o'clock
AM -CST of said day.
Each bidder for said work shall enclose with his bid a Certified Check payable to
the Treasurer of said City, in the sum of two and one-half (22) per cent of the amount of��
his bid or a bid bond for two and one-half (22) per cent of the amount of his bid, to ins-
sure the execution of Contract, if said work is awarded to him.
Detailed plans and specifications for said imp? ove_ments are on file in the office
of the .Board of Public Works and Safety.
The Board of Public Works and Safety reserves the right to reject any and all bids.'
