�IENGINEERING DEPARTMENT A Maintenance Bond was approved and ordered filed for Edward J.
White, Incorporated, for a sewer on East Pennsylvania Avenue.
An Excavation Bond was approved and ordered filed for Earl C. DeVan.
Contractor's Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Harry N. Barnes; and Burton
Morse.
The Board approved the plat of Hartman's Twyckenham Plat an addition to the City of
• South Bend.
The City Engineer filed plans and specifications for the LaSalle Street sewer and
the Clerk was directed to advertise for bids for same. Bids to be returned on June 11,

The approved Pavement Plans on May 14, 1951, for Tuxedo Drive from Jefferson Boule-
vard to Washington Street in Swanson's Park lst and 2nd Addition.
STREET DEPARTMENT: Melton 0, Brannan, Street Commissioner, was present and matters per-
taining to his department were discussed.
• CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertaining to
his department were discussed.

Mr. Miller was granted permission to attend the Mid -Western Safety Conference in
Chicago June 4 to 8, inclusive.
The Board approved the following stop signs:
Erskine Boulevard at Ewing Avenue, southeast corner.
Columbia Street at Bronson Street, both sides.
St. Joseph Street at Bronson, northwest corner.
Marrietta Street at Bronson Street, southeast corner.
Stop Signs to be changed to Scotchlite Signs at Bronson and Rush, both sides.
RAILROADS: A letter was received from Grand Trunk Western.Railroad indicating that an
overhead'street light had been installed at the grade crossings at 35th Street.
A letter was received from the New York Central System indicating that they are ac-
tively engaged in repairing their bad crossings in South Bend, and, also, that they had
issued instructions to their crews to avoid blocking of crossings so as not to interfere
with traffic.

ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A Certificate of Insurance was filed by the Niles Excavating
Company and approved by the Board.
Contractors' Bonds were approved and ordered filed for George F. Bence d/b/a George
F. Hence Construction Company; Charles E. Dempsey; James Kovaesies; Portage Realty Corpo-
ration; Rieth-Riley Construction Company; Francis Snider of Osceola; M. E. Walters d/b/a
M. F. Walters Building Contractor; and Guy F. Welsh.
A petition was received requesting the paving of Sheridan Street from Western Aver II
nue to Sample Street. This was referred to the City Engineer for investigation and re- •
port.
A petition containing 26 signatures was presented by a group of property owners
complaining against activities in the Oliver Plant in the 100 block Dunham Street. The �j
Board directed that a letter be sent to G. A. Farabaugh, Attorney for the Oliver Corporals

of the Oliver Corporation appear before the Board on Monday, June 4, at 11:00 a.m.

May 31, 1951
A Special Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Thursday, May 31, 1951 at
6:30 P.M., C.S.T. Mr. Baer was absent. The meeting was called for the purpose of public
hearings on the following Improvement Resolutions:
No. 2665 WILBER STREET from the north line of Fassra cht Avenue to the southerly
line of LaPorte Avenue
No. 2666 KENMORE STREET from the north line of Western Avenue to the south line
of Linden Avenue
No. 2667 WELLINGTON STREET from the north line of Western Avnue to the south lire
of Linden Avenue;
Property owners whose property is effected by the above resolutionswill have a ten
(10) day period of which to file remonstrances against the improvement resolutions.
