of Public Works was held on Monday, April 2, 1951

TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Ernest Miller,
Traffic Engineer, was present and matters pertaining
to his department were discussed.
Stop signs were installed on Fellows at Calvert Street, both sides. This makes this
a 4-way-stop crossing.
TAXI CABS: An amended petition was
filed by the Yellow Cab Company through
its attorney,
iPatrick Brennan, requesting permission
to transfer a taxi cab stand located
in the 200
block of West Jefferson Street to the following location: At the northeast
corner of
Western Avenue and Main Street, on
the north side of Western Avenue at the
first meter
east of Main Street. This was referred
to the Traffic Engineer for investigation
and
report.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: The Board

RESOLUTION
OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS

HE CITY OF -SOUTH BEND
WHEREAS, the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana,
has determined that it would be for the best interests of said City and its citizens to I
provide for the construction and improvement of such streets is necessary in order to prd,
tect the health and well-being of the citizens and will be of general benefit to the, entire
City; and
!' WHEREAS, the Board of Public Works and Safety finds that the estimated cost of the
construction and improvement of said streets and incidental expenses in connection there
with will be in the amount of Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000.00); now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, that this Board request the City Controller and Common Council to take proper
steps immediately to provide the necessary funds for said purpose, in the amount of Five
Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000.00), and to that end that a copy of this resolution
be filed with the City Controller and City Clerk, and presented to the Common Council
at the next meeting thereof.

VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2660
This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by
the Board of Public Works for the vacation of CHERRY TREE LANE from the west line of
Ironwood Drive to the west line of Morris Country Club Addition 190 feet long by 60 feet
wide under Vacation Resolution No. 2660. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient
proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and no Written remonstrances
hating been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that th

said resolution be finally adopted and the said Cherry Tree Lane be vacated. The Engin-
eering Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of
benefits and the award of damages to the surrounding properties.
VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2659
This being the date set for continued hearing on Vacation Resolution 2659 for the
vacation of MARSHALL STREET from the west line of 24th Street, weat a distance of 166
feet, the following letter was drafted and sent.to the attorney for the remonstrators:

On, March 26, 1951, you filed a remonstrance on behalf of Fannie C . Dugdale and Milo

Dugdale to Vacation Resolution No. 2S59 pending before the Board of Public Works and
Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana..
We, have carefully gone into your petition and make the following suggestions: If your ii
client will dedicate an extension to Marshall Street to the west line of the Dugdale�
property, including sufficient area for the "turn about", in accordance with our conver-
sation of last week, we will then sustain your remonstrance. If, therefore, you wish to
proceed in accordance with this plan, we will re uire that you file with the Board such
dedication on or before the 9th day of April, 1991.
As you know, the City Plan Commission does not feel that there is any necessity for the
present or the proposed
p portion of Marshall Street. If, therefore, we do not have the
necessary dedication by the date above named, we shall feel free to vacate the existing
portion of Marshall Street as asked for in Vacation Resolution No. 2659. I!

ing to his Department were discussed.
An Equipment Rental Agreement for street sprinkler and flusher for flushing state,
maintained streets in South Bend was signed by, the, State Highway Commission and.returne
to the Board. This was placed on file.
