General Equipment & Machine 49.38 (TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters pertaining i to his Department were discussed. RAILROADS: Mr. Dilley of the Indiana and Michigan Electric Company appeared before the j Board,to discuss the increase in the cost of street lights situated at railroad grade cros- sings in South Bend. The Board informed Mr. Dilley that he should bill the railroad com- pany for the above ,lights at the increased price. BUSSES: A letter was received from Mr. C. Walter Stamm containing complaints about bus � service. This was referred to the Northern Indiana Transit, Incorporated. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: The Board approved street improvement plans for Illinois Street from Washington to Jefferson Streets. Mr. Guy Nesbitt, 205 South Kenmore Street, spokesman, and seven other persons appear ed before the Board to present petitions for improving Kenmore Street from Western Avenue to Fillmore Road; Wellington Street from Western Avenue to Fillmore Road; and Dundee St., from Jefferson to Washington Street. This was referred to the City Engineer. A letter was received from the City Plan Co=ission wherein they indicate they do not recommend the vacation of the first alley south of Western Avenue from Olive Street east to the north and south alley. The Board, therefore, denied the petition to vacate AnH Hi rented the Clerk of the Board to so inform the petitioners. CONTRACTORS COMPLETION AFFIDAVIT STATE OF INDIANA ) SS. ST. That he is familiar with and personally knows the requirements of the plans and spe cifications of said improvement resolutions and further knows that the Said Reed Constru tion Company in the performacen of said work complied with -all the terms and conditions of said plans and specifications in every particular, and that the material used was of the character, kind, quantity and quality required therein and according to and under th direction of the Board of Public Works and Safety. Bruggner BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY NOTICE OF NEARING SPECIAL BENEFITS ON STREET IMPROTEMENTS Nos. 2642 and 2646-1950 South Bend, Indiana November 17, 1950 November 24, 1950 Notice is hereby given, that the following Street Improvements have been completed, The general character of the Improvement, the street, alley or public place on which it has been made, and the terminal points thereof, are as follows: No. 2642; GRANDVIEW COURT PAVEMENT from the west line of Cottage Grove Avenue to the east line of Harrison Avenue, AND No. 2646, ALLEY BETWEEN MICHIGAN AND MAIN` STREETS PAVEMIENT from the south line of Stull Street to the north line of Broadway. There is on file in the office of the City Controller of said City an assessment ro with the names of the owners and description of property subject to be assessed with the amount of the prima facia assessment, and can'be seen in the office of said City Control lei-. The Board of Public Works and Safety of said City, at the office of the Board in said City, will on the 27th day of November, 1950 at 10:00 o'clock AM -CST receive and he remonstrances against the amounts assessed against their property respectively, on said roll and will determine the question as to whether such`lots, or tracts of land, have be or will be benefited by said improvements to the amourts named on said roll, or is great or less than that named on said roll or in any sum. Ko&lmann for land accepted for public use. t� 2�14 VACATION RESOLUTIONS NOS. 2655, 2656 and 2657 This being the date set for hearings of assessment rolls on Vacation Resolution No. 2655, First alley south of Calvert Street from William Street to the west line of alley east of Williams Street; AND No. 2656, First alley south of Fredrickson Street from O'BriE Street to the east line of the north and south alley and from the west line of the north and south alley to Huey Street; AND No. 2657, First alley south of Ford Street from Grant Street to the east line of northand south alley, and from the west line of north a nd soutl alley to Warren Street, the hearings are now continued until Monday, November 27, 1950 at 11:00 a.m. STREET DEPARTMENT: Melton 0. Brannan,:.Street Commissioner, was present and matters per- taining to his Department were discussed. A letter was received from the Association of Commerce in which they guarantee:., that the Association would pay for the electrical current used in illuminating the Christmas street decorations. This was placed on file. PARKING METER DEPARTMENT: Maurice C. Vennet, Auditor, presented his report for the week ending November 11, 1950. CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertaining to his Department were discussed. Mr. Miller informed the Board that he had referred a petition for a traffic signal at Lawndale and Lincoln Way West to the State Highway Commission, inasmuch as, Lincoln Way West is a°State Highway. The petitioners were so notified. Mr. Miller informed the Board that the following stop signs have been,.installed: On %elling Street at Ford Street, both sides On Vassar Street at College Street, both sides On Dunham Street at Wellington, northeast corner Cn California at College Street, both sides The following stop signs have been replaced with Scotchlite Signs: Kaley Street at Ford Street, both sides Vassar Avenue at Blain Avenue, both sides Fassnacht Street at Walnut Street, southwest corner. ,t • 0 • I" J • •
