Noble, Clerk BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY iGARBAGE DISPOSAL: Mr. Leo Rieder, Attorney, and Mr. Cripe, Manager, appeared before the Board for the Dependable Disposal Company. The Matter of garbage service was discussed !at some length and they agreed to work out a schedule which would be fair to everyone. STREET DEPARTMENT: Melton 0. Brannan, Street Commissioner, was present and matters per- taining to his Department were discussed. i A letter was received from the Housing Authority, signed by Mr. C. H. Annala, request- ing the Street Department to remove.dirt from sidewalks,fronting property owned by the Housing Authority and they agreed to pay the cost. „ Mr. Hall, representing the Lyle Signs Company, appeared before the Board to show samples of street signs. Mr. John Daly representing the Indiana State Industries also ap speared before the Board to show samples of street signs. No action was taken. ,PARKING METER DEPARTMENT: Maurice C. Vennet, Auditor, presented his report for the week sending October 30, 1950 110EMETERY DEPARTMENT: Stanley Lesczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertaining to j his Department wiere discussed. A petition was received asking for the-mnstruction of a traffic signal at the inter- section of Lawndale and Lincolnway West. This was referred to Mr. Miller for investiga- tion and report. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractor►s Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Charles • V. Berta and C. H. Martin. 210 Excavation Bonds were approved and ordered filed for John B. Hendricks and Arthur C .- Rogers. The following letter was received from the Dan Webster Coal Company: City of South Bend, Indiana Departments of Public Works, & Safety Attention: Freda Noble, Clerk of the Boards i i Dear Madam: In answer to your letter of October 30th in regard to the dust condition from our coal yard, we have started to build,a fence as agreed, we have also tried to keep the driveway wet down during the dry weather to eiminate',_dust,_>:gLnd are preparing to oil them as soon as we can obtain oil, which should take care of a lot of excess dust. I have quit using the conveyors for stacking in the back of the yard that seemed to irri- tate the neighbors as much as anything else. I feel sure that you wo ntt have any additio nal complaints from now on or if you should they won't be justified. There is on file in the office of the City Controller of said City an assessment roll vd th the names of the owners and description of property subject to be assessed wit the amountof the prima facia assessment, and can be seen in the office of said City Con- troller. The Board of Public Works and Safety of said City, at the office of the Board in sa City, will on the 20th day of November, 1950, at 10:00 otclock AM -CST receive and hear remonstrances against the amounts assessed against their property respectively, on said I roll and will determine the question as to whether such lots, or tracts of land, have be or will be benefited by said Improvement to the amounts named on said roll, or is greate . or less than that named on said roll or in any sum.
