The Board approved the installation of traffic signals at the corner of Logan Street !and Mishawaka Avenue. A petition was received asking for a 3-hour parking limit on streets in the Stude- baker plant area. This was referred to Mr. Miller for investigation and report. ENGINEERING_ DEPARTMENT: Contractorts Bonds in the amount of $1,000 were approved and ordered filed for Taylor Construction Company, Inc.; W. R. Shaffner; and the Reed Const tion Company of Mishawaka, Indiana. An Excavation Bond in the amount of $1,000 was approved and ordered filed for Midl Engineering Company, Inc. A petition to improve South Edison Street from Sample to Ford Streets by the const tion of a concrete pavement was referred to the City Engineer. 172 Mr. Smith, representing the South Bend Shrine Club, appeared before the Board to re- quest permission to install a 5,000 gallon tank for oil storage along the east side of their building on East Washington Street. This was referred. to the City Engineer to chec with the Fire Inspector, and a temporary permit.was given to them subject to withdrawal if the need for a public alley arises, or if the area to be used should ever be needed fo public use, or if public safety should require it. The Common Council _referred a complaint with reference to rats in the Bowman Creek area to the Board of Public Works and Safety and the Board directed that an investigatio be made. J VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2650 Mr. R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll snowing the awards of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of a parcel of :'land located on the north side of iffiest Garst Street, at the northwest corner of the inter: section of West Garst Street and South Franklin Street, beginning at the northwest inter-, section of said streets a distance due south 20.20 feet, thence due west a distance of 99.50 feet, thence due south a distance of 12.00 feet, thence due west a distance of 20.06 feet, thence due north a distance of 32.20 feet, thence due east a distance of 119.50 feet to the point of beginning under Vacation Resolution No. 2650. j In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in the City ;Hall at 10:00 A.M. (C.S.T.) on the llth day of September, 1950, for the purpose of hear- ing and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said vaca- tion, and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount fof damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners -by publish - ling same on the 25th day of August and•on the lst day of September, 1950, in the South Bend Daily Tribune and the Weekly Mirror Press. VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2653 RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE -CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: That it is, desirable to vacate ,the following: The alley north of U11estern Avenue from Franklin Street to the west line of the alley west of Lafayette Boulevard. The following property may be inuriously or beneficially affected by such vacation: Lots Numbered 403 to 408 inclusive, part of the Original Plat of South Bend also Lots Numbered 17 to 22 inclusive, part of Vail's Southwest Addition, and Lot Number 23, except the North 52 feet, part of�Vailts Southwest Addition. ° Notice of this resolution shall be published -on the 25th day of August and on the lst day of September,'1950, in the South Bend Daily Tribune and the Weekly Mirror Press, This Board, at its office in the City Hall on the llth day of September, 1950, at 10.00 AM (CST) will hear and receive remonstrances from all persons interested in or af- fected by these proceedings. Mr. John Zriny and property owners in the area of the Studebaker Corporation petion- ling for a three hour parking limit appeared before the Board. After a lengthy discussion !and hearing all complaints, it was the decision of the Board that Mr. Ernest Miller, Traf- fic Engineer, further investigate and discuss the parking problem of the Studebaker employ- ees to see what can be done to remedy the situation. PARKING LOTS: The South Bend Parking Company, Incorporated, filed a notice of price change Iat Lot South V'.Test Corner of Main and LaSalle Streets, effective August 24, 1950. 'ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractors' Bonds in the amount of �$1,000 were approved and ordered filed for the American trVheelabrator and Equipment Corporation of Mishawaka, Ind.; .!Benjamin Brothers; James F. Keller; and, Uhitcomb and Keller, Incorporated. An Excavation Bond in the amount of $1,000 was approved and ordered filed for the ,`Northern Indiana Public Service Company. A letter was written to the Dan Webster Coal Company, 833 S. Fellows Street in accord- ance with complaints made by the adjacent property owners in regard to coal dust due to expanded operation into the lot immediately north of present coal yard. They were asked to have a representative appear before the Board at the next regular meeting,to discuss methods of eliminating this nuisance. Letters were written to the Edwards Iron 1,orks, 2901 South Main Street, and the Stu- debaker Corporation, 635 South Main Street, in accordance with complaints made by Mr. L. C. Robertson, 3116 South Main Street, representing property owners in that vicinity, regard- ing foreign matter coming from the chimneys of said companies. The hearing on the vacation of the alley north of Pokagon Street from Michigan Street 'to the east line of the alley west of Michigan Street AND the alley west of Michigan Street !from Pokagon Street to Angela Boulevard under Vacation Resolution No. 2651 was continued !until September 112 1950. The Board approved plans submitted by the Thomas L. Hickey, Incorporated, for the `.erection of a canopy for a commercial building on the northwest corner of Main Street and {LaSalle Avenue. This canopy will extend out from the building 5 feet 3 inches and 13 feet above the sidewalk. H
