August 28, and was asked to report to the Board at that meeting.

A letter was received from the City Plan Commission indicating that they do not reco-
!lmend the vacation of the alley north of Longley Street from Johnson Street to the first !
alley east of Johnson and the first alley north of Longley from Brookfield to the first j
jialley west of Brookfield. The Clerk of the Board was directed to so notify the petitione's.,
A petition was received asking for the vacation of the alley north of Western Avenue
from Franklin to the west line of the alley west of Lafayette Boulevard. r'his "'was
referred to the City Engineer.
The Board approved plans for Miami Hills Addition.

WHEREAS, a plat with dedication of streets and alleys indicated thereon is now pre-

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City
f South Bend, Indiana, that all public streets, alleys and public places dedicated to

VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2650
This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by the
oard of Public Works for the vacation of 4 parcel of land located on the north side of
est Garst Street, at the northwest corner of the intersection of West Garst and South
ranklin Streets, beginning at the northwest intersection of said streets a distance due
outh 20.20 feet, thence due west a distance of 99.50 feet, thence due south a distance
f 12.00 feet, thence due west a distance of 20.00 feet, thence due north a distance of
2.20 feet, thence due east a distance of 119.50 Peet to the point of beginning under Va-
ation Resolution No. 2650. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of pub
ication and no remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been
iled with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolu
ion be finally adopted and the said alley be vacated. The Engineering Department is di-
ected to prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of benefits and the award of
amages to the surrounding properties.
VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2651
This being the date set for hearing on Resolution No. 2651 heretofore adopted by the
oard of Public Works for the vacation of the alley north of Pokagon Street from Michigan
treet to the east line of the alley west of Michigan Street AND the alley west of Michi-
an'Street from Pokagon Street to Angela Boulevard. Comes now Harlan E. Orr, Petitioner,

The undersigned petitioner represents to this Board that he has not yet completed
the contractural documents for the erection of the proposed apartment house building, and
that he has not as yet purchased from the City the right of way of the old electric line,
but that he does intend to do so in the near future.
WHEREFORE, petitioner prays that the hearing on the vacation of the alleys be contin
ued until petitioner has purchased from the City of South Bend the old electric line righ
of a way.

Be It Resolved, By the Board of Public Xorks and Safety of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, that it is deemed necessary to improve
No. 2642 GRANDVIEtN COURT from the east line of Harrison Avenue to the west line of Cot-
tage Grove Avenue by constructing a Class "C" Pavement, AND
No. 2644 ROBINSON STREET from the south line of Lincolnway East to the north line of
Calvert Street by constructing a Class "C" Pavement, AND

Street by constructing a Class "C" Pavement, AND

The total cost of said improvements, including all incidental costs such as advertis

approved March 6th, 1905, and in accordance with and pursuant to the provision

of all amendatory and supplemental acts thereto, passed by the General Assembly of the

1State of Indiana. Assessments, if deferred, are to be paid in ten equal installments, wi

interest at the rate of six (6) per cent per annum. (A bond or bonds shall be issued to
the contractor in payment of assessments, as the several owners of real estate upon which

they are a lien exercise the right to pay the same in ten equal installments.) Under no
circumstances shall the City of South Bend, Indiana, be or be held responsible for any
,sum or sums due from said property owner or owners for said work, or for certificate or
!certificates, bond or bonds, issued to said contractor in payment for such work, except
for such moneys as'shall have been actually received by the City from assessments for suc

TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters pertain
ing to his Department were discussed.
The Board approved the installation of traffic signals at the corner of Logan Street
and Mishawaka Avenue.
A petition was received asking for a 3-hour parking limit on streets in the Stude-
baker plant area. This was referred to Mr. Miller for investigation and report.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractorts Bonds in the amount of $1,000 were approved and
ordered filed for Taylor Construction Company, Inc.; W. R. Shaffner; and the Reed Constru
tion Company of Mishawaka, Indiana.
An Excavation Bond in the amount of $1,000 was approved and ordered filed for Midlan
Engineering Company,' Inc.
A petition to improve South .Edison Street from Sample to Ford Streets by the constru
tion of a concrete pavement was referred to the City Engineer.
