Minutes of the previous meeting were read and ap- proved. The Board approved the installation of traffic signals at the corner of Lincolnway East and Monroe Streets; and, at the corner of Bronson and Lincolnway East. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: An Excavation Bond in the amount of $1,000 for George A. Aslin d b a Aslin Plumbing & Heating was approved and ordered filed. Contractor's Bonds in the amount of $1,000 were approved and ordered filed for Grove C. Monroe; and, Leroy Matthews. A plat of Canterbury Court was received by the Board and referred to the City Plan Commission. A petition was received asking for the installation of a sewer on Camden, between Western. Avenue and Washington Street. This was referred to the City Engineer. A petition to improve the alley between Kendall and Chapin Streets from Dubail to Bruce Street; and, also, Bruce Street from Chapin Street east to the alley was received by the Board and referred to the City Engineer. A letter was freceived from the Association of Commerce asking permission to erect a bulletin board across the entire front of the property located at 128-130 South Michiga Street. Permission was asked for this erection because of the fact that it will extend 4 inches over public property. Permission was granted by the Board, but special insuranc will be required holding the city harmless from all liability. This board is to be used for civic and educational purposes only. A petition was received asking for the vacation of the first alley south of Western Avenue from the first alley west of Phillipa to the east side of Olive Street, Vacation Resolution No. 2641 Mr. R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the awards of damages and the assessmehbs of benefits in the matter of the vacation of the alley im- mediately north of Lot Numbered 11 extending from St. Peter Street to the west line of said Lot Numbered 11, and the alley between Lots Numbered 4 and 5 and extending.,from Howard Street to the south line of Lots Numbered 4 and 5 as shown on the recorded plat of Kelley's Sub -Division of Lots 131, 132, 133, 137, 138 and 139 in Sorin's Second Addition to the Town of Lower, under Vacation Resolution No. 2641. In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders thatit will meet in the City Hall at 10:00 A.M. (CST) on the 7th day of August for the purpose of hearing and re- ceiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said vacation, and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by publishing same on the 21st day of July and on the 28th day of July in the South Bend Daily Tribune and the Tri-County News. 148 A complaint was received that the Fruehauf Trailer Company, 2425 West Western Avenue was paint -spraying trucks outside their building and the paint -spray was being carried by the wind to nearby homes and also they were burning oil -soaked rubbish. The Board di-1 ree-ted that a letter be sent to the said Company asking that they have a representative appear at the next regular meeting. I ; A letter was received from the owner of Lots Numbered 20, 21 and 22 in Corporon and j Duck Eddition, asking that fill -.dirt and street sweepings be dumped on his property. Thel Board directed that a letter be sent to the Street Commissioner informing him that he might use the above location for the dumping of fill -dirt, street sweepings and broken �!: • concrete. Plans and profile drawings for a sewer for Drewrys Limited were approved by the Board. A petition was received asking for the improvement of Albert Street from West Ford Street to West Sample Street by the construction of a pavement. This was referred to the City Engineer for investigation and report, IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION RESCINDED No. 2633.- 1950 • South Bend, Indiana I July 17, 1950 I` Department of Public Works and Safety: For the improvement of THIRTY-FOURTH STREET -from the south line of Mishawaka Avenue to the north line of North Side Boulevard under Improvement Resolution No. 2633-1950, adopted June 12, 1950 for the construction of a Class "C" Pavement. After hearing all persons interested who appeared at the public hearing held for • said improvement on July 6, 1950, and having received a written remonstrance on or before) July 17, 1950, said date being the final day on which a remonstrance may be made against said improvement, and said remonstrance bearing the signatures of 51 per cent or more of the resident property owners on said street, who may be liable for assessment for said improvement, therefore BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, j Indiana, that Improvement Resolution No. 2633-1950, duly passed by this Board on June 121 1950 for the above improvement, be and the same is in all things rescinded and the improv`- ment is hereby ordered not made. Bruggner BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY 'STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Melton 0. Brannan, Street Commissioner, was present and matters pertaining to his Department were discussed. A letter was received from C. H. Annala, Executive Director of the Housing Authority; requesting the use of city owned equipment and an operator to mow tall grass and weeds in, the housing projects. The Board granted his request and directed that he contact Mr. Bram- nan as to the time and the use of the equipment and the arrangements for paying fdr same. PARKING METER DEPARTMENT: Mr. Maurice C. The Board approved stop signs at the following locations: Huey Street at Elwood Avenue, both sides; and, Franklin Street at Ewing Avenue, northwest corner. An Agreement was entered into between the City of Mishawaka and the City of South Bend concerning the improvement of traffic conditions at the corner of Logan Street and j Mishawaka Avenue. The City of Mishawaka agrees to construct certain islands, curb and ' sidewalk and necessary pavement and to pay for the electricity used by certain stop signs; to be erected on said corner. The City of South Bend agrees to furnish, install and main, tain four (4) signal lights (stop signs) at the said corner, including all wiring neces- sary to put and keep said signal lights in operation. I This being the date set for receiving bids for one (1) Passenger Sedan for the Traf- fic Engineers Department, the following bid was opened and public read: Scherman-Schaus-Freeman Co., A Non -Collusion Affidavit with 520 S.
