HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/20/1950 Board of Public Works Minutes56 RAILROADS: Mr. Aaron Huguenard, Attorney for the Chicago South Store and South Bend Railroad and Mr. Caparon, Superintendent of Track Maintenance for the said railroad ap- peared before the Board to discuss the repairing of the right-of-way along the tracks which are on the city streets in South Bend. Mr. Caparon stated that -materials have bee ordered and as soon as the weather permits, work will be started on replacing paving materials between the tracks and the situation will be remedied. .A tentative date, Apri 1, 1950, was given as the date on wlr ich this work should be on the way. PARKING ��rTEA DEPARTMENT: Mr. Maurice C. Vennet, .Auditor., presented his report for the week ending March 11, 1950. STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Melton Brannan, Street Commissioner, was present and matters pe taining to his Deva.rtment were discussed. The Board approved a. Surety Bond covering the delivery of materials to the Street Department from, the Standa.fd Oil Company. A communication was received from the Comrgon Council with a letter attached wherein objection was made to the installation of parking meters on East Wayne Street and South Carroll Street. This was referred to the Traffic Engineer. BUSSES:: A communication was received from the Common Council relative to equipment used by the Bus Company which was referred to the Northern Indiana Transit Incorporated. A letter was presented to the Board by Council,,_an Walter Glass, which letter was signed by S. Gelbaugh and related to bus service. This was referred to Northern Ind.tana Transit incorporated. ENG HEERING DErARTi,.fENT: An Excavation Bond for Clifford Kiryoun and Losier Stanley, d/b/a Kinyon and Stanley was approved and ordered filed. DeGrove. i A petition to improve Chicago Street from Western Avenue to Ford Street by the con- struction of a. pavement was referred to the City Engineer. • Mr. William Bradway representing the South Bend .Awning Company appeared before the Board to a,sk permission to install a permanent type a,wming. The Board granted permission for said installation at 117 West LaSalle Street,, providing the distance from the side- walk level to the bottom of the valance is not less than eight feet and the awning is not protruding from the building a. total. distance of more than five feet which will make it extend over the sid3vra.lk proper not more than two feet. Mr. Nathan Levy and Mr. Van Skyhawk appeared before the Board to discuss the instal- lation of posts containing electric -eye apparatus in front of the building known as the ,South Bend Clinic.
