Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approv- ed. II RAILROADS: A copy of a letter addressed to Mr. Aaron Huguenard was received by the Board! wherein the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad indicate that they have been wa.tc'- ing the condition of the pavement around their tracks on the city streets in South Bend. The Railroad Company further states that as soon as the weather conditions are favorable the situation will be remedied. A letter was received from the Grand Trunk Railway System advising that an over -head; electric light had been installed at the Ironwood grade crossing. A letter was received from the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Company acknowledging 1 receipt of the letter from the Board directingg the Railroad Company to erect short -arm automatic gates at the Logan Street and the 26th Street grade crossing. ENGINEERING DEPARTT�El`vT _ .A letter was received from the City Plan Commission indicating I that the petition�to condemn eight feet of land in Twyckenham Hills Addition for alley j purposes was tabled because of the greater practicability of widening this alley by incre5.s- ing the alley on the north side. letter was received from R. D. Kuespert requesting permission to install metal .A signs in the parkway in various locations drawing attention to a church. The Board denie4l this petition inasmuch as the Board has no authority to grant permission to use public property for any such purposes. i VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2621 This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by the; Board of Public Works for the Vacation of the first alley west of Ironwood Drive from Ewing .Avenue to the South Line of the alley North of Ewing Avenue under Vacation Resolu- tion No. 2621. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be final- ly adopted and the said alley be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to pre- pare an assessment roll covering the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the surrounding properties. Mr. R. S. Andrysiak' City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the award of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of the first � alley west of Ironwood Drive from Ewing Avenue to the south line of the alley north of Ewing Avenue under Vacation Resolution No. 2621. i In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in th-j City Hall at 11:00 a.m. on the 27th day of March, 1950 for the purpose of hearing and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said vacation, and � 51 jthe Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount of damages: awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by publishing same on ithe 9th day of March and the 16th day of March in the South Bend Daily Tribune and the ;Tri-County News. j t VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2622 This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore gad:opted by j the Board of Public Works for the vacation of the alley east of Eddy Street from Chalfant; • Street to Campau Street and the alley north of Chalfant Street from Eddy Street to Arthur, Street under vacation resolution No. 2622. Butler, Its Attorney No remonstrators appearing and no written remonstrances having been filed, the BOARD therefore, finds that the several lots and parcels of land have been benefited and damage in the amounts shown on said roll. The Board, therefore, decided to take final action on said assessment roll and declares same on all things ratified, confirmed and approved wit out modification, and the proceedings closed, and the alley vacated upon receipt of the amount of benefit assessments from the various property owners so benefited and all pro- ceedings had with reference to said alley vacation are hereby sustained. PARKING METER DEPARTMENT: Mr. Maurice C. Vennet, Auditor, presented his report for the week ending March �+, 1950.
